Truly is the logical replacement/upgrade to the D850!

Posted by Michael Skvarenina on November 29, 2023

Coming from a D850 for several years, I was unsure if the Z8 was really worth the $4k price tag. Now that I’m shooting Z8 I must say this is one great camera and a welcome upgrade from the D850. Image quality is nearly the same but shooting performance is greatly improved and I’ll use the word almost “effortless” now. And if you asked me if I would go back to the D850, I’d have to say no as I’d now get frustrated with all the new capability I’d loose going back

This is a step up, no matter what you use now.

Moving up from Z6/7 is a quantum leap. You'll never be able to understand until you hold it in your hand. Image quality is beyond superb. Once I figured out the menu, I found the autofocus to be stellar. I've only had it for a week, but the differences are striking. My only beef so far is not really a beef. The menus are much larger, and contain many more options than my previous Z series cameras. Accordingly, it has a big learning curve if you are to utilize all the tools available to you. I have heard the complaints about battery life, but I haven't been impacted by that issue yet. I am confident that a newer battery will be forthcoming, with additonal capacity.

    Hail, hail the Z8.

Posted by Ted N/A on November 28, 2023

A wonderful camera. I have used a D600 for many years, it was top of the line when I got it.By comparison the Z8 is an order of magnatude more complex. The instruction manual that came with it tells you how to turn it on and that is about it.It took me a week to figure out how to view my photos. I had to purchase three instruction books before I found one that I liked . (Mastering the Nikon Z8 Camera, Isaiah Wealth)However I look forward to enjoying years of fun with this camera after I get over the learning curve.

    Never looked back…

Posted by Philippe Moisa on November 27, 2023

Upgraded from a D850 and found out that my number of keepers had greatly increased. Transitioning from a Nikon DSLR was not too brutal and I am very happy of the AF and in-body stabilization performances. The ability to customize the camera is endless and navigating through the profiles is a breeze. My only observation is that it that the (superb)EVF is power hungry and you better get a few backup el-en 15c batteries handy if you plan for a full day of shooting. Btw the learning curve maybe stiff for some unfamiliar with the Nikon menuing system but YouTube is full of informative setup videos.

Great to pair the Z8 with my Z9

Posted by Nils Ribi on November 27, 2023

I've had a Z9 since it first was released. My backup camera has been a Z7ii. I just traded the Z7ii in for a Z8 and I'm very happy I did. Now it is much easier to quickly switch back and forth between each camera as the settings and buttons are virtually the same. It is also easier to travel with the Z8. I'm a happy camper!

Z8, my best camera in years.

Posted by Luiz Coutinho on November 27, 2023

Outstanding camera. After D7000, D750, D780 and Z6II the Z8 is my first camera that does everything I ever wanted to do. Fantastic performance in Sports and low light. I'm really impressed.

    Z8 Initial Impressions

Posted by Larry Briggs on November 27, 2023

I already own a Z9. I bought a Z8 as a backup after selling off my D500. I tried the Z7ii but soon realized I wanted something comparable to the Z9 but small and lighter. I was totally blown away by the Z8. It is basically a “baby” Z9. Set up and operation basically the same as the Z9. I was off shooting with it within half a day. I have not been able to test out all the features but for wildlife it performed as well as my D850 and Z9. I will never have any down time should something go wrong with my Z9. Landscape photography worked well. I will be testing it out for some night photography and night street work within the next couple of weeks. Very, very happy with the Z8.

Tested out the Z9 before buying the Z8. Has all the awesomeness of the Z9 but for less money and it is lighter. Very happy
