NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR

The common issue brought me to this lens: my Z50 II and 100/400 VRS lens is a great combination but heavy as a travel lens. That brought me to to 28/400 VR. After a month with landscape, bird and people shots, I am more than happy. Not quite as fast or sharp as the 100/400 but very easy to use, v good results and easy to carry. Meets my expectation as a compact allrounder.

I purchased the Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR lens as an alternative to carrying around my NIKKOR Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR S lens when weight and bag space was an issue. It has proved to be fantastic all-around addition to my camera bag. From almost macro nature images, street photography, to telephoto sports images, I am empressed with how it has delivered encredibly sharp high quality images in a variety of lighting situations even when hand-holding it. For those who are on a budget and looking for a super high quality all-around lens, this lens is for you.

Friend bought one in Nov, 2024, It was sharp and focused well.
I order one, it had been Damaged in Shipping, due to Amazon's Incompetence. Returned it. Ordered another One, not as sharp as my friends, returned it as well. Ordered a 3rd, even worse. It went back too.

I hesitated buying this lens. I wanted a lens to replace 2 lenses to bring on a family vacation because I wanted to travel light, and this lens delivered and then some!! The quality is amazing! Sure it isn’t fast but the technology is so good these days, that a high ISO on some pictures isn’t really a problem.Frankly one of the best purchases I have made this year.

I have a number of lenses, but predominantly, the one I walked all over the world with on my D810 and D850 was my 28-300 3.5-5.6. I bought the 24-200 for my Z8, and it worked well, but I wanted THIS lens. It is a little faster, and a LOT longer. It is one great walk around lens, and a true successor to my 28-300. It is just a better lens then either of the others, and reasonably priced. I am very, very happy with this lens.

This is the perfect lens for walking around and shooting everything from landscapes to wildlife. It is super sharp and works well on my Z8 and Z7 bodies. The weight is light enough to not be tiring and the lens is very comfortable shooting handheld. The VR works great.

I got this lens in hopes of replacing my 24-120mm S and my 100-400mm VR S lens and my oversized camera pack to reduce the weight for a trip to Scotland. I love the overall versatility of the lens and the ease of use. shifting from the low to high range is great and fast. The photos for me are every bit as good as the other 2 lens. You just can not go wrong with this lens.

I bought this lens after my shoulder surgery so I needed a light lens with telephoto reach for birds and wildlife. Very pleased with the sharpness, better than expected. I used it with my Nikon FZc as well as Z6II. Amazing results with Nikon Fzc as you are getting dx crop resulting in 42-600mm lens, excellent sharpness. I print with Epson P800 so up to 17 x 22 inch paper, so this is how I test sharpness. Highly recommend this lens.
