I was holding out for a mirrorless version of the D850, I am not disappointed.

    Z9 Lite

Posted by Mara Lavitt on June 19, 2023

I never wanted to see EVF blackout again. I no longer shoot sports so didn't need the Z9's FPS but did want its more sophisticated focusing. Basically, I wanted the Z9 in a smaller body which pretty much describes the Z8. It is the "Z9 Lite." Love the processor. Hate that the review button has moved from the top left to the bottom right. Not sure how I feel about the HEIF RAW compression. Wish that I could reformat the card with two buttons instead of in the menu. For me the sweet spot would be a 7iii that had the compactness of the 7ii but the processor of the Z8 and Z9. Now THAT would be a sweet camera!

There is no backup recording on 2 cards at the same time

Posted by gavriel adi on June 18, 2023

For some reason you still haven't fixed the most basic thing for videographers, which is recording video on 2 cards at the same time, which means shooting video with backup, I don't understand it at all and I hope you wake up and fix it with a firmware update

A worthy successor to my D850.

Posted by Joseph Ford on June 17, 2023

I'm a huge fan of my D850, and it still get regular use for events. With Mirror-less and upgraded glass. Z8 will become my primary workhorse. With the speed, ability to focus and outstanding picture quality it just a perfect camera replacement.

An old dog learning new camera tricks.

Posted by Steve Parker on June 16, 2023

I'm 70 years old. Started my photography habit in 1971, with a Minolta SRT101, while taking a photo class in college. Learned how to develop in B&W, and loved it. Bought a Nikon FE, D50, D90, D600 over the years. The Z8 is such a step forward for me. I've spent hours learning new craft, when I thought I was fairly competent. This camera is able to do everything I want (for now) and it far better than my skillset. I am really enjoying learning how to take advantage of its capabilities. The image quality is great. The handling is natural. Now if I could just remember what settings I put in bank C? :).

    Impressive

Posted by miguel bejar on June 16, 2023

Oh man! I have the z7 mark 2 which is a fantastic camera and a smaller factor than the Z8, but this camera is at another level , the amount of customization and specially the Auto-focus is really something else. I decided to upgrade based on the electronic shutter instead of the curtain. The shutter actuation is so stealthy that sometimes you have to double check to see if a picture was taken. Nikon has a truly created a D850 upgrade for those of us that don’t require the bulky professional option that the Z9 offers.Battery life is underwhelming but not terrible. I rather take 2 extra batteries with me than using the heavy attachment that Nikon provides. You won’t be disappointed with this camera.

    Outstanding!

Posted by Edward Clark on June 16, 2023

Added this to my kit to compliment my Z9. It's every bit of the Z9 (minus the grip) in a more portab le package with some new extra features. I much prefer the shutter selection button and white balance button locations over the Z9. It's really the camera I've been watiing for since moving to mirrorless from my D850, and I could not be happier with it's performance!
