The Perfect Entry into the Mirror-less World

Posted by Russ Bishop on January 1, 2024

Timing was perfect for this D850 shooter to move into the mirror-less world. The adapter allows me to use all of my stellar Nikon glass while migrating to the new system. Handling, menus and ergonomics made for a smooth transition from the D850, which will remain my backup body. For my first mirror-less lens the 24-70 f2.8S was the perfect choice and is beautifully balanced on the Z8. The critical points that sold me were the dual memory slots (I use the #2 slot for in camera backup) and the electronic viewfinder, both of which were not available in earlier mirror-less bodies.

    Just What I Wanted

Posted by Ken Salzman on December 31, 2023

I started out my digital photography with a D200 but soon found the ISO constraints created a lot of problems. When the D4000 emerged claiming better ISO, I quickly made the switch. As good as the 4000 was there were a number of tech improvements that led me to the D800 and I was very happy with this camera for several years. However, as an avid wildlife and bird photographer I was still frustrated with some of the limitations regarding autofocus and frame rate. My solution was to pair up the 00 with the (then new) d500. I contemplated getting a D6 but balked at the cost and the weight and also discovered the D850. The 850 is a great camera but I fantasized about a mirrorless full-frame system with better AF tracking, improved ISO capability, faster frame rate than my 500 and the ability to continue to use my extensive and expensive collection of lenses. I was seriously thinking about the Z9 for a while, but when the Z8 came on the scene, it was a no-brainer for me. Thank you Nikon for making my dream come true! I may eventually start swapping my old lenses for Z lenses given their great reviews, but right now I have seen no degradation in images using the FTZ II adaptor.

    Love it!

I decided to treat myself and buy the Z8 along with the 70-200mm Z mount + verticle grip. Extremely happy, loved my D500 & D850, but the Z8 is on a whole other level. Focusing performence & overall capabilities are outstanding

    Thanks Nikon

Best investment I have ever made, after shooting nikon all my life, (50years) mostly shooting wildlife and landscapes the Z-8 does what it says at super speeds and its toughness, dropped it about 4 feet on a rock and it continues to perform. Buying the FTZ II i use all my dslr lenses to. Also bought the new 180 to 600mm and it works flawless. Thanks Nikon for keeping me as a customer I almost jumped ship but you guys came through!!!
