Best photography decision I've ever made

What a huge upgrade from my old D5300! Despite a plethora of available customizations, getting to the features I really need is a breeze. Who knew that it would not only be a much better camera but that it would be so much easier to use as well?

Fantastic upgrade.

I finally upgraded from my DSLR (D7500) to a the Z8 mirrorless. I chose the Z8 as I was able to reuse several of the components I already had, such as Batteries (EL-EN-15c) memory cards. I did opt to purchase a CFexpress card as my primary storage and I use my old cards for overflow. I have had and had it for about a month now and and took it to Hawaii over Christmas/New Years. I did spend some time on line watching videos of how to set it up before I left. I am very impressed with it. I love the ability to easily switch between the custom shooting modes I had saved. This was not something that I could do before. I could switch from "Action" to "Landscape" in less than 5 seconds and all my setting were there for that mode. In the past I would have had to navigate one or more menu items to make the changes. I fell in love with the way it could auto track and auto focus. I used this in my Action Mode to capture birds and other animals. Great job Nikon!

Kudos to Nikon engineers

I am very impressed with this camera although I have yet to master its full capabilities. The tracking is spot on based on my limited outings when paired with the Nikon 180-600 lens the results have been impressive. It almost feels unfair when compared with the results from my old Nikons but I will just have to get used to having more ‘keepers’ while taking credit for any perceived improvement in my abilities as a photographer.I would suggest improvements to enhance the battery life or some easy to follow steps to lower the camera’s energy use.

Awesome upgrade from Canon to a flagship Nikon
Posted by Dan Theman on January 3, 2025
Coming from the Canon 80D DSLR crop sensor camera, the Z8 is so amazing with focus tracking, custom banks, low iso noise and increase in megapixels for cropping to compliment the excellent glass of the 24-120mm and 100-400mm S lenses. Despite the learning curve, I'm loving it so far and highly recommended it!A few extra batteries, CF B memory cards, the Nikon Z 1.4 teleconverter and Sirui AM-254+KS-20 tripod will be delivered soon to complete my camera bag soon.
