I have had my Z7 and the 24-70 since November. In that time I have produced two magazine articles with it and a commercial video.

It is a great lens to accompany other Nikkor lenss I have which range from 10mm to 500mm in focal length. Great clarity. Vivid colors and flexibility. Also love my Z6 and other Nikon bodies.

The 24-70mm f/4 S in combination with the Z6 camera body is a welcome downsizing in weight and upgrade in capability over my D7100 and various Nikkor and Tokina lenses. One major disappointment is that for ALL prior lenses, where a hood fits straight on then rotates, clicks and stays in place (normal expectation), on my copy of the S lens, there is no “lock”, click, secure position. The lens hood very easily rotates and falls off. I am in contact with Nikon Customer Service, but this is yet unresolved.

I do not know if other Owners have encountered this problem.

When I first put in an order for a Z 6, I ordered body only with FTZ adapter. Then I had second thoughts after realizing I could get the 24-70 f/4 with camera at a bargain price. So I cancelled the first order and reordered. Now that I have the lens it most often on the camera, being well suited for general shooting. The lens is high quality, with optics that are a match for my more costly F mount 24-70 f/2.8 G. Most reviews one reads about the lens confirm what a good lens it is. If one were to buy a Z camera to use with one lens only, this lens should be given strong consideration. I highly recommend it. In addition to the superior optical quality, the lens is light and compact, a perfect fit for the camera.

This lens works well with the Z6, but it feels more like a kit lens than a solid Nikkor lens. It was inexpensive enough when purchased with the camera. It is a no-brainer in terms of cost, and it does showcase this incredible camera. I was happy with the pictures taken with this lens, and it is a light lens to be paired with the Z6, but it is not the build of my other lenses purchased for my D810. I will use it with the Z6, but, when I can´t miss the shot, I will use a higher quality lens, even if it isn´t as convenient.

The new S series 24-70mm Nikkor lens is a must have for your new Z series camera for multiple reasons. The achievable focal lengths are wide enough for good scenery shoots and narrow enough for good portraits. To me, the lens behaves like it´s about a 1/2 to 3/4 stops faster which was a pleasant surprise. The low light performance is impressive. For those of you who like to do video, this lens has absolutely ZERO lens breathing and focus shifts are butter smooth. It´s just a very solid performing versitle lens. I am very happy with it. The only “con” I have is that sometimes I get some minor vignetting but it´s easily corrected in post.
