Take a look at the 24-200.

Posted by Louis White on August 17, 2023

The Nikon 24-200 is perfect for my daily needs. The Nikon Z 5 is my first mirrorless camera. I walk and hike often, and I needed something lightweight. I am pleased with the image results I get. This would also be a great travel lens.I plan on getting additional lenses, but the 24-200 will remain my "daily driver".

For a hiking and traveling this lens is a great choice, probably the best choice right now

As a professional photographer, I own a lot of F2.8 lenses, but they're not practical for carrying on my back while hiking the mountains, and for landscape photography I don't need constant F2.8 or F4 since I'm almost always trying to maximize my depth of field and shooting with no wider than F8. For hiking and landscape, I need a light weight, versatile lens, that is sharp. Any super-zoom, is going to have shortcomings, and if you pixel peep you'll find issues with this lens too, but pixel peeping is BS, because that's not how you really look at images. This lens for all practical purposes is very sharp and is far better than my old Nikon AF-S 24-120 F4 lens. Its VR works extremely well, and I appreciate the zoom lock for hiking. I wish it had a switch auto/manual focus, but not a big deal since I use back button focusing. Also, It would be nice if it had a switch for VR on the barrel, and lens coatings to minimize flare, but I guess Nikon was trying to keep the cost down. The bottom line, for landscape, hiking and traveling, this is the best option, and it will give you professional results, prints that could hang in a gallery and be sold.

Used to mistrust super-zooms, now thanks to this lens, I learned to embrace them

Posted by Francisco Solares-Larrave on July 29, 2023

I always mistrusted super-zooms but purchased this one after a good friend, and avid fan of the Z-system, recommended it to me with enthusiasm. After my experience, I've changed my mind about super-zooms.Now, the good things about this lens are that it's light, reasonably sharp (I'm always shooting in AP at f8 to compensate) and tough enough. The aspects that I didn't quite like were that I sometimes wished for a larger aperture at both ends (at least f3.5-5.6), and a manual focus option, in addition to a closer minimum focusing distance. However, given the ratio of cost-benefit, and considering that this lens comprises a vast range of focal lengths, I won't complain. I've been quite happy with the performance of this lens and its extraordinary quickness at focusing, and the combo of Z6II and this lens helped me bring some pleasant images that I'll print and hang at home,

    Outstanding lens.

In my 60+ years of photography using everything from Kodak Brownies to 4x5 view cameras, the Nikon Z 24-200mm lens is the sharpest and most versatile zoom lens I've ever used. It especially useful for video. While shooting 4k video, one can switch from FX to DX mode and go from 200mm to an effective 300mm while maintaining 4k resolution. This makes this lens coupled with my Nikon Z7 a superb video combination for my use.

Great lens to keep on the camera !!

Posted by Britographer Britographer on July 15, 2023

Terrific travel lens, this stays on my Z7 body when on the road. Versatile, sharp, light for carrying around all day. I have four prime lenses for Z mount, but unless I need the shallow depth of field, this is what I'm shooting... Numerous advantages to this: you won't miss a shot while changing lenses, you have a cleaner sensor not changing lenses often, you can carry it easily so you won't be as tempted to leave the camera in the car, etc. My two lens travel kit (for flying) is this lens and the 14-30mm.

I'm a long time Nikon user. I own and have used the Nikon camera bodies 200,300, 700, 800E, 850, and now the Z9. I use mostly Nikon Pro lenses (12-24,24-70,70-200,200-400, etc.). All of those lenses are pricy but outstanding glass. The Z 24-200 is my walk around lens for my new Z9 camera. So far, the images have been great with theZ 24-200 while not as heavy or long as my older 70-200.

    Very Nice All-In-One

Posted by Gilbert Wright on June 24, 2023

Pros: This is my first Z-lens as I move from D750/810 to Z7ii. I wanted a lens that had a wide range of focal lengths, but dedicated to the Z mount. This punched the ticket. I was pleasantly surprised at how balanced and light the camera felt compared to using the FTZ and F-series lenses. Auto focusing action is smooth and accurate, image is nice and bright in the viewfinder. Images have that noted Nikon feel that we treasure. Cons: Given the wide zoom ratio, I know compromises have to be made, but here are initial impressions.I would love an extra stop (or 2) at 200mm. Close focusing is not its strong point.Overall it is a solid 4 from me and probably a 5 for many hobbyists. It is a very good "walking-around" lens for anybody.
