My new favorite travel Lens
Posted by Greg Moore on December 8, 2025
I wanted a good travel lens that did not weight a ton. I looked at the Z-mount offering by Tamron but it's over 2.5lbs (1kg) and much bigger. I bought the Nikon 24-200mm because I've always had good success with Nikon glass. This was no different. On a recent trip I took this lens and a 50mm. I ended up never taking this lens off and never use the 50mm. That said, no it's not the perfect lens. I have this on a Zf and found that in low light situations it didn't perform very well. But it's light, fairly compact, and operates quickly and smoothly and with the Zf IBIS and the lens VR pictures are always sharp... unless I did something stupid. :-) When I pick lenses for my next trip this will be the first one I grab.

Can't Go Wrong
Posted by Daniel DiBernardo on October 13, 2025
I have used the lens on a recent outdoor photoshoot at Eckley's Miners Village in Eckley, PA. On my Nikon D7500 I have been using the 18-300mm lens. Always happy with Nikkor lenses. The 24-200 on the Nikon Z5II is a welcome addition to my equipment. No complaints whatsoever. Great walk around lens!

Excellent walk around lens. I use it on my Z50 II for my outdoor walk around. Lens is sharp at all focal lengths. Also great for video.

Z24-200 versatility without loss of clarity
Posted by jerry l. on June 22, 2025
This is my favorite travel lens. I leave my 70-200 at home. Less weight in the back pack and the quality of my photos is terrific. I thought I would miss having a 2.8 aperture but not really. Still also carry a wide angle 14-30S.

great deal on a useful lens.

I have been having a blast with this lens . I have been shooting outdoor soccer with it on my Z6ll with great results , and shooting some indoor events on my Z6lll with good results. It's a little slow indoors, but with auto ISO, it works well as an everything lens.

Great grab and go lens
Posted by Bibb G. on May 12, 2025
This lens is a great "grab and go" lens and that's exactly the reason I bought it. Sometimes I just want to keep thing simple and carry one lens. Super light weight, focuses very close and is really sharp throughout the full zoom range. Now all that being said, the build quality and performance isn't that same as a Z prime or S zoom lens but it's plenty good for general picture taking. My clients don't know or care if I'm using a $800 vs $2500 lens. All they care about is the final image and this lens makes my job easy. Only con is the slow max aperture but again, gotta have realistic expectations about what you are buying.

Travel Companion
Posted by Jim M. on May 11, 2025
So far, so good. I selected this lens to pair with the Z5 II for use as my primary travel camera. So far I've done a few landscapes, macro style flowers, and people. The lens is very sharp and pairs very nicely with the Z5 II. This lens and camera combo should be a great travel setup without the need to carry a bag full of lenses.

Great first Z-mount lens for my new Z6 Mk III
Posted by Grumpy Goat on April 18, 2025
I recently changed course from the Nikon DSLR system to the full-frame mirrorless system when I sold my D5600 and lenses and got the Z6III body. Naturally I needed a versatile first lens to go with the camera and, on balance, the 24-200mm zoom fit the bill. It was funny but I later realized that this was the same range as on my other favourite camera, the superb Sony RX100 Mk7.The last few years I have gotten away from photography and being more into motorcycling I was shooting more video, and the rust shows in my stills. The 24-200 allows me to get back into photography in a practical way, with wide to zoomed focal lengths, that can also do landscapes, some wildlife, general interest stuff, some decent portraits and also some video. So far, I am very pleased with this lens, although it has whetted my appetite for more specialized lenses, but the wallet needs to cool off.
