Nikon really did it this time!

Posted by scubacharlie on December 25, 2019

I bought my Z7 after waiting awhile and although I don´t usually buy the kit lens, this is an extremely fine piece of glass. I did think about using my favorite wide angle 14-24 on my Z7, but this lens is equal and comes in for a lot less money. Images are sharp from each corner, and focus is spot on. I can´t say enough good things about this lens - and the weight really makes a difference when you are carrying it all day on a landscape adventure hike.

    Incredible size/performance ratio

Posted by GregW on October 20, 2019

Coming from a AF-S 16-35 f/4G ED-VR this 75% the length and 71% the weight of that lens, with the slightly wider view. I´m an architect and used the previous one extensively on job sites. I have not had a chance to the new one too much yet, but I think I will be even more pleased with it due to its portability.

The only lens I used on a Utah National Park Trip

Posted by Rulandrew on October 20, 2019

This lens is the only one I used on my Z6 during a recent trip to several Utah National Parks. Had the Z24-70 in my bag but never took it out. I found the Z6/14-30 setup to be perfect for my vision of the landscape. The Z6 with this lens carries comfortably in a small messenger bag on day hikes. I love it. The images are great too.

    Light-weight Wide

Posted by RobIke on October 20, 2019

The 14-30 f4 is an excellent addition to my Z 7 system. Small, light-weight and sharp, it´s exactly what I wanted to compliment the compact full frame body of the Z 7. I don´t find that one stop slower than 2.8 is a significant issue with landscapes, travel, cityscapes, or industrial photography. If I decide to get more serious about astrophotography I will probably add a fast, wide prime at some point.

    Sharp and lightweight

Posted by etcher on October 18, 2019

I had previously used a Tamron 15-30 2.8, good but heavy. This lens is quite sharp and distortion is at a minimum, the ability to add a screw on filter is greatly appreciated. Just got back from a trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway and this lens performed admirably.

    Good, flexible compact lens

Posted by JimLosAltos on October 17, 2019

If the best camera is one you have with you, then the compact size combination of the 14-30 and Z7 is great. I remain torn about getting future 14-24/ 2.8 or 35 mm 1.2 because I like fast lenses and shallow DoF but will I carry all of them?

just a great lens in a small package

teamed up with the z6 could not be better just light enough to carry all day and not a bad picture sharp a clear all the way

    Sharp lens, terrible barrel distortion

Posted by Lightwiz on October 17, 2019

I had hoped that this lens would replace my bulky 14-24mm f/2.8. Contrary to reports that Nikon worked with Adobe so that the barrel distortion would be mitigated when imported into Lightroom this is not my experience. I do a considerable amount of architectural shooting and I have to spend time with every image fixing the unacceptable barrel distortion. Might be OK for the landscape folks but it´s joke for buildings.

Fantastic Lens. Great for shooting landscapes and large events

Posted by BobR on October 17, 2019

This is my new walkaround lens when shooting in the paddock at motorsports events and for landscapes. This is the best Nikon 14-30mm lens I have owned
