I´m a Wide-Angle junkie!
Posted by D5000Shooter on May 29, 2011
This 10-24mm lense is great piece of glass! I have used it in urban and rural landscape settings as well as taking pictures for events for my employer (a private school). People are so impressed with the way it can capture a setting. Advice: get in close as possible and really fill that frame up! If you just stay back to get as much in frame as possible, you will end up with ants and small figures in boring pictures. Photoshop CS5´s lense distortion filter can help correct slight distortion this lense can produce in the wider settings (10-12 mm).

I´ve been shooting with a 35 mm for years and with this lens it ´s a new approach how to re-frame my shoots. This wide angle offer a spectacular view and the clarity of the pictures are astounding. For some cases I had to move closer from subject to make the shoot.I am not disappointed with this product you will love it.

Real Estate Agent - Home Interior Photos are important in our business and limited time to take photos. This wide wide angle lens gives better view of the home, without the fisheye effect - Using basic D40 with 10mm lens and SB900 with fantastic results -

Sharp and Super-Wide!
Posted by JGC-CT on April 13, 2011
Getting a satisfying wide-angle perspective with the crop sensor on my Nikon D5000 was always a challenge with the 18-55mm kit lens. Due to the 1.5x crop factor, the 18-55mm can only achieve the results of a 27mm lens (in terms of 35mm equivalence). While the kit lens is respectable for its price point and versatility, that field-of-view it offers on the wider end of the spectrum is just too narrow in many circumstances! When I´m out on the trails, I need a lens that can swallow up expansive landscapes despite the crop-sensor handicap of my D5000.
The Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED was precisely the solution to my wide-angle dilemma. At 10mm on my DX-format D5000 body, this lens achieves a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 15mm... now THAT´s the wide-angle perspective I´d been craving! Now I can take produce those wide-angle shots that I´d been envisioning for so long, but which the 18-55m simply couldn´t conjure.
Generally, such wide lenses tend to suffer from inherent optical flaws, but the Nikkor 10-24mm tames these problems as best as possible. Softness at the frame edges is minimized and overall, across-the-frame sharpness on this lens is more than respectable.
For some, the variable aperture may seem to be a turn-off. But in practice, I can say that losing only 1-stop across the entire zoom range is relatively insignificant in most shooting situations.... especially considering that I´m usually stopped down to f/8 or f/11 anyway.
I´m not generally one to fret over build quality, which is to say that I don´t lose my mind if a lens ins´t made of some space-age, indestructible material. In my experience, such things represent an unnecessary level of over-engineering for most photographers. After all, I haven´t even managed to break to the kit lenses... and the 10-24mm certainly feels more sturdy than those!
The auto-focusing is fast and reliable and the effortless manual-override is a nice touch, as well.
Another quality of this lens which I enjoy is the fact that it overlaps the zoom range of my 18-55mm kit lens. This is great for two reasons. First off, between my 10-24mm and my 18-55mm, I know that I´m covered on ALL focal lengths between 10mm and 55mm. Second, the 10-24mm provides the super-wide angle I need, without forcing me to switch lenses if circumstances ocasionally call for a narrower scope around 18-24mm range.
Overall, this a great lens and I couldn´t be happier with it. The Nikkor 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED is a valued addition to my gear that I´ve always got in my bag whenever I hit the trails. -

The perfect lens for the wide angle range

I do a lot of abstract photography and this lens has met my needs on every level. I would say that many of my ´´keepers´´ were taken with this lens. It is always in my camera bag.
