Purchased refurbished as I always try to do, since what I've received has been indistinguishable from new and at a better price, albeit shorter warranty window. Another reason to go refurbished is you know your copy has been babied over, rather cranked out the line. Not saying Nikon doesn't do good QA, but you get the BEST QA and individualized attention with refurbished.Anyway, this lens was no exception. Minor detail: when putting the lens in the pouch, I couldn't help but wonder why the butt end of the lens was sticking out of the pouch. If you turn a Nikon pouch inside out, you'll find the product code or the actual model number. The pouch I received had number 4923, which is the CL-1118 Soft Lens Case. The specs for this lens call for a CL-1022 Soft Lens Case. I've received pouches from Nikon before that seemed a little big, but didn't bother me. But this one having more than just the rear lens cap exposed irked me.This particular pouch is out of stock at Nikon, which probably explains the switcharoo. But no biggie, found a genuine CL-1022 Soft Lens Case on a popular e-commerce website for a few bucks. Overall great purchase though!

I owned this lens in my pre-Z days. Wish Nikon would make a new and improved one for the Z bodies. I had the 80-400 F lens too, but found that this was a great walk about lens without the weight and it took up less room in the bag. If Nikon decides to make a Z version, why not make it an F4 for the whole zoom range like the F4 80 to 200 with other improvements?

I replaced a 55-300 DX lens with this one to go along with my D7500. I use it primarily to take pictures of youth soccer games, but also a little bit of wildlife. It is a very nice lens and does the job just fine. Highly recommend for a budget friendly and portable telephoto lens.

I purchased this zoom lens as an affordable replacement for a manual focus zoom lens from the film era. This zoom is sharper on digital, and so fits the bill. I wish the zooming collar were smoother, as it feels like dull drag. (I would want a more expensive zoom lens, if I used this focal range more than I do.) The sharpness and color produced are impressive on video, using the D750. The camera was able to track lateral movement, but the camera did not do well with movement approaching the camera.The lens focus is accurate with video; it is up to the camera to keep up. The attached photo of a dog was shot at ISO 800 as was needed to get 1/500 sec shutter at the maximum aperture of f/5.6 under heavy overcast.

I bought this lens this week to use with a cropped sensor D3500. I´ve been testing it daily, and I´m blown away by it (blessed be the gentleman from BandH who encouraged me to ´´step up´´ to this full frame lens from the DX version I had in mind, he knew what he was talking about.)

The lens build is fantastic; the materials feel absolutely ´´pro level´´ to the touch and the huge zoom ring is not only absolutely smooth, but a pleasure to use. The lens is heavy enough to make you feel you´re holding a pro lens, but not so heavy that you don´t want to bring it with you everywhere.

AF-P technology makes focusing mind-blowing fast; if you´re coming from an older AF-S version, the difference is almost comical. Nevertheless, AF-P also means that prospective buyers must check for camera compatibility. If your camera model is AF-P compatible, then you´re in luck, this is one of the best prosumer lenses Nikon has ever made for both FX and DX bodies.

Somewhere, I read a couple of reviews mentioning that this lens is not good in low light conditions. With all due respect to these people, if you can´t get great low light shots with this lens, most likely it means you don´t know how to properly take photographs in low light. The only exception to this I can think of are photographers who need to shoot fast moving sports or wildlife subjects with a shallow DOF—or people who, for some inconceivable reason, insist on shooting everything ISO 100 or lower in low light, at full aperture, handheld, and still expect perfect sharpness (???) People in these exceptional circumstances do need to go for the super expensive, top-of-the-line 70-200mm f/2.8.

I´ve attached 6 photos I took last night from the High Line in Chelsea, NYC using this lens on a Nikon D3500 between 8:41 and 8:56 pm, all handheld with VR in ´´Normal,´´ the Empire State Building being the furthest away subject 1.1 miles (1.77km) away. Most of the images were shot at f/11 with Auto ISO ranging between 100 and 6400, and I´ve uploaded them straight from the camera, no post-production of any kind. After coming home and seeing the results on my screen, I was so happy I could dance.

This lens is worth every single penny I paid for it.

I bought this lens as a lightweight “walking around” medium telephoto for my D850. I also use it with a DX format D7200. I use a AF-S 200-500 f/5.6 when I use a tripod but it´s a bit heavy and cumbersome for handheld shooting. It´s a moderately priced lens when compared to the 70-200 f/2.8 and certainly not quite the same quality, but at 1/2 the weight and 1/3 the price it´s a bargain. It focuses quickly, produces clear images, is lightweight and affordable. I recommend this lens for someone looking for a decent quality full frame lens.

I bought this FX lens (it works on DX bodies as well) primarily because I needed reach beyond what the 24-70mm f/4 S on my Z6 offers, and all of the glowing reviews. At 300mm on a tripod, this lens produces rich colors and sharpness to rival any Nikkor lens in its class. It works perfectly with the FTZ adapter, with no lag in AF. Handholding at 200mm and above calls for a fast shutter, but that´s the case with any telephoto zoom. For the price, it is worth adding to you collection.
