This lens makes my hobby "my hobby".
Posted by Richard L on June 21, 2022
I acquired this lens as a part of the package for a D5600 dx. This lens surprised me as to it's ability to sharply and completely focus at high shutter speed completely freezing the motion of hummingbirds' wings in flight. True it is not VR, however, using a tripod to capture hummingbirds in flight is problematic. I got with some old timers who shared their experience with older and non vr lenses and they showed me a trick and two and its made me a better photographer. Yeah, this lens and the old guys makes wildlife photography an adventure. I love the economy of it, the light weight, and its versatility. In fact, my D5600 and this lens insures that I will be hiring someone else to mow my lawn this year.

Great Telephoto

This lens is surprisingly sharp and focuses extremely well with my Nikon D3300. It’s great value for the money.

Fun, Far Reaching Lens
Posted by Joel Thurston on January 27, 2022
I've had this lens for about 6 years as I bought it with my very first Nikon Camera. Over the years, as I have learned and grown as a photographer, this lens has continued to perform and deliver. With a little patience and practice even without a tripod, shooting at 300mm is fun, provided there is enough light to allow one to shoot at fast shutter speeds. The included photo was taken with the Nikon D3400 and this lens.

Awesome lens.. Even though it isn´t a VR.

I bought this lens with the D5600 lens kit and I have loved it ever since. Although this is not a Vibration Reduction lens and people might think it is a cheap lens, it is the opposite. Very good for fast action shots and close ups from a far distance.
I highly recommend this lens for any sports, nature or close up enthusiast. -

Good overall, amazing for birds and wildlife
Posted by BiologyMan on April 22, 2019
I bought my first DSLR a few days ago. I got this lens in a package with the D5600. After only a few days with my first DSLR, I´m already getting some great pictures with this lens. I took it to the Cincinnati Zoo today and it was so much fun.
Some of the exhibits at the Cincinnati Zoo are huge and the animals are free to roam around. The zoom lens really came in handy here. Even for large animals like giraffes and wildebeests,, when they are really far away the standard 55mm lens doesn´t get you close enough. The zoom lens got me in close enough to see the patterns on a giraffe and the eyes of a flamingo.
It is especially great for birds. The depth of focus allows you to capture the bird with a nice blur in the background, and the colors of the bird just jump out at you.
I highly recommend this for any wildlife enthusiast. -

Lens doesn´t work with older cameras
Posted by CPat on January 23, 2019
I was very excited when I got this lens as a multi lens and SLR package with a D7200. I wanted to use the zoom on my D7000, and my all purpose lens on my newer, faster camera body. I placed the lens on my D7000, and it did nothing. The lens will not communicate with the D7000. What´s worse is that the manual focus doesn´t work on the D7000 either, so essentially unless you are using the zoom with a new camera that is AFP compatible, it´s completely worthless. If I had known that, I would have just bought the body and not the lenses as well.

Great tele lens but useless without tripod
Posted by Jake89 on March 26, 2018
This is a great lens, at 70mm this lens is fast and sharp. However, if you are planning to use it at 300mm, get a tripod. You can spend a few bucks more for the VR version.

Pas pour moi. Après un journée je l´ai retourné.
Posted by Nikon transfuge Pentax on February 10, 2018

Leak
Posted by Yuie on July 23, 2017
It is my first set of d3400. Love it. But I both of lens that come with the set were leak of something. Dust inside between the glass. I try to get it taking care of it, but too expensive to clean all dust out by Nikon company. This should be cover under the warranty. But it is not. Very sad. David M. was really nice and try to help, but not much he can do. The Nikon police is not that good. Except I took good care of my camera. To recommend not sure, if all they for d3400 leak like mind.
