Good overall lens for reasonably good light, moon shots
Posted by Joe Hayter on December 10, 2020
I have this lens. I bought it, refurbished by Nikon, almost 2 years ago. Works perfect and is on my D7200 90% of the time. The only drawback is it's not good for low light because of the small aperture. As long as the light is reasonably good it focuses fast and is sharp. I use it mostly for moon shots, squirrels and birds.

Great lens.
Posted by gearhead3571 on October 15, 2018
I got this lens about 7 months ago and I love it. I have taken great shots of eagles on the Hudson. Many shots of them in the trees and in flight all without the aid of a tripod all handheld. The shots come out fantastic. It may not be a pro lens but for me it is just what I need. The VR works better than I thought. This is the best lens that I have in all the Nikkor lens I have. For the money it is well worth it. If you are thinking of buying one make sure it has VR. Would recommend

Great Travel Telephoto
Posted by Scripps23 on May 21, 2017
The light weight, small size, excellent optics, and very reasonable price make this my chosen telephoto zoom lens for travel. Coupled with an APS-C sensor camera body, this lens provides 105mm to 450mm focal lengths and shooting stability via Vibration Reduction.

Excellent light lens, but still no lens hood?
Posted by DaveyJ on May 15, 2017
I have a fleet of Nikon Cameras. I am part of a family of professional photographers. I use this lens only on a D3400 camera. It has still no lens hood? It is a fly by wire technology. It unfortunately is NOT compatible with the D3200 camera which I,use as a work-field camera. This is a good lens but needs a lot of light. I personally rate the older 70-300 variable aperature lens ending in F5.6 as a better lens, I give them both five star ratings, but the bigger, heavier, older lens is to me a way better lens. It also costs a little more. I got my reviewed lens as part of a group purchase which included a D7200 Nikon camera body which I regard as about the best bang for the buck!

Great Lens-Probably best DX lens for the money
Posted by Sdjm on January 17, 2017
Purchased this lens 2 months ago and the more I use it, the more I like it. Not for low light by any stretch, but otherwise takes great photos, focus very fast and very easy to handle. Under ideal conditions, as good (and quite a bit lighter) as my DX 17-55 which is 5 times the price ! My camera - D7200

Best zoom lens ever !
Posted by Pavelototti on November 30, 2016
I am amazed .... Images are crystal clear ...i had the 70-300 mm VR 5.6 ....but I never liked it much ...i bought more than 3 different ones thinking the version I had was not good but all turned out to be the same ...something about the color saturation and sharpness.....where as this one is unbelievable....it gives crystal clear results and super sharp images at all zoom levels !
I am using it on nikon D750 , And believe it or not, it performs better (sharper and more accurate colors) than all my three existing Nikon lenses: 50 mm 1.8g, 85mm 1.8g and 24-85mm VR !
I wonder what Nikon has done with this lens ...I need an exact lens specs for the short zoom range ..
