Ultra Lightweight Zoom for All-Day Use
Posted by russinmanhattan on August 16, 2018
I was interested in getting a zoom lens that would be good for travel or all-day walking around. I already had a Nikkor 70-200 f4 and a Nikkor 28-300 f3.5-5.6, but found both a bit heavy for all day use or international travel. Based on many user recommendations for the older AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor
70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED, I came close to ordering this lens to meet the portability challenge, until I discovered the relatively new AF-P 70-300 f4.5-5.6E. Since my two cameras (Df and D810) could handle this ´´E´´ AF-P lens, I decided to ignore one friend who said the AF-P was primarily a video lens and bought it. It took a little time getting used to it -- particularly in lower lighting situations -- but after shooting with it for a few days, I must say I´ve been impressed. Auto focus is quick and quiet, corner-to-corner sharpness is excellent and the lens´ light weight is a joy to hold and carry around. Vibration Reduction is also quick and effective. Also, unlike my heavier 28-300, there is absolutely no lens creep when walking around. The AF-P 70-300 creates images that are sharp with rich color saturation and nice bokeh. This lens was a good and worthwhile addition to my Nikon gear collection. -

Excellent lens!

I own about 12 Nikon different Nikon lenses and wanted a zoom that was light and would allow me to carry less weight for an upcoming trip to Africa. I have a 70-200 which is great but somewhat heavy, I tried the older/other 70-300mm lenses and found that they were not sharp beyond 200mm. I decided to give this a try and took it on a recent trip and shot around 500 to 800 photos. Everything from landscapes, wildlife and portraits, I am thrilled with this lens it is super sharp throughout the range even at 300mm. It also focus super fast and is light enough to carry with ease. About 95 percent of my photos turned out great, when they didn´t it was my fault. I was able to get some clear shots of birds flying and of sports/action the VR in both modes worked very well.

Ultra Fast Focusing, Superior Optics, and Light Weight
Posted by Scripps23 on August 7, 2017
The new Nikon Nikkor full frame AF-P 70-300mm zoom lens really hits the mark. Auto focusing speed is extremely fast and accurate--the focused image literally jumps into the view finder the instant you press the shutter release. The new optics are superior as evidenced by the six photos below. Although the lens is large, it is extremely light weight and can be worn on your neck all day without any significant fatigue. This lens will be my new traveling telephoto.
