A Great Addition To My Camera Bag

    Posted by fasted2010 on October 18, 2019

I´ve always wanted to try a mirrorless system, but hesitated to try anything but a Nikon because of my collection of F-Series lenses ... so the ´´Z´´ series came at a good time. I regularly shoot with a D5, but it´s very heavy to lug around for casual photography. The weight and the quality of the photos on the Z3 work perfectly. I love the tilting screen when I want to lift the camera above the heads of people in front of me. The only negative so far has been the lack of a built-in flash when I need a quick fill flash. I have not experimented yet with the video capabilities.

    What a great camera

Posted by pixelpro on October 18, 2019

I recently upgraded from a D7200 and am so glad I did! This quality of the images this camera produces are incredible. Yes, the single card slot is a drawback along with the QXD cards, but I´m not too worried about those things relative to the overall Z6 features. I bought 2 Z lenses, the 14-30 and the 24-70 kit lens. I love the size of these lenses but more importantly the glass is amazing for sharpness and clarity. Very highly recommended!

    Small and versatile....

Posted by JAMM on October 18, 2019

I´ve been a professional for 20 years and the Z6 has changed the way I shoot. I´m able to quickly capture moments in an unobtrusive way that I was never able to before. It allows me to be much more artistic and to work more efficiently. The touch screen is wonderful....what you see is what you get!

This camera would get 5 stars if they fix the following issues:

    1. Banding issue when capturing images under certain types of artificial light...not sure why the Z6 sensor does this. To resolve this issue, you have to slow down your shutter speed...sometimes to 1/15 sec...yikes! My D5 holds up without any banding issue under the same lighting conditions.

    2. The delay issue when turning on the camera. I´ve missed some moments because the camera takes a couple of seconds to turn on.

    3. Dual card slots are desperately needed.

I love my Z6. Although, it´s not the perfect tool yet...I trust that Nikon will improve this small and versatile camera with the next release.

Fantastic photo and video quality - fairly ease to use - lack of Z zoom lenses is disappointing

    Posted by 35MMLOVER on October 18, 2019

I purchased the Z6 for an African Safari and the results were fantastic. Stunning video and vivid enlargements. The smaller form factor than a DSLR is a plus. The Z6 is fairly easy to use given the number of available settings. The Z6 was much simpler than my wife´s Lumix that would have an undesired setting inadvertently set regularly. I´d liove a Z6 default to expose traditional film camera settings and obscure other settings. Apeture, shutter speed, focus, light meter and ISO. Battery lasted all day. The lighter and faster Z lenses are an attraction but the lack of Z zooms, even on the Nikon roadmap, is disappointing. For Africa, I used the F adapter, 100-400mm F moun lenst and a 1.7x teleconverter. I´m ecstatic with the results but would have liked a lighter, shorter and faster Z lens. There is a Z 250mm zoom just announced but it´s as DX that won´t produce the desired quality.

    A great Z6 Mirrorless Camera

    Posted by Shark100 on October 18, 2019

I traded my older D7000 Nikon for the Z6 and I am delighted with the purchase. Yes, the Z6 is a much more expensive camera but it does a whole lot more such as low light photography and absolutely outstanding 4K Videos. The camera has a few quirks that need to be ironed out by both the user and Nikon. The user has to get used to the idea that it has only one memory card, the QXD so you can´t shoot a bunch of jpg files on one card and nef files on another. You can always sort out these file types on the computer using your Picture editing software such as LightRoom webversion. The other quirk is getting use to using the view finder and / or the LCD. If you set up the camera to shoot RAW files, I find it necessary to store the camera settings using the one of the ´´C´´ settings. My Nikon 28 ~300 lens works extremely well.

A worthy successor to the Nikon D750

Posted by PJOswald on October 17, 2019

I´m a wedding and family photographer who recently traded one of my Nikon D750 cameras to put a foot in the waters of mirrorless cameras. After two months and about 12,000 exposures, here are my thoughts:

    Pros:
-Realtime exposure preview and focus-peaking in the viewfinder are a delight
-The viewfinder and LCD screens are each very clear and colorful, and give me a good feel for if my images nailed focus or not
-Battery life is better than I´d expected for a mirrorless camera. I get about 750-1000 shots per battery compared to about 1800 on my D750
-Each of my 6 F-mount lenses (including Nikkor and Tamron) work as well as ever with the FTZ adapter
-No mirror means no per-camera autofocus calibration for my prime lenses. I nail focus with my primes more often than before
-Having in-body vibration reduction means I can shoot at slower shutter speeds without a tripod
-The XQD card transfers files so much more quickly to my computer meaning I spend less time waiting to move files on to my computer. (What took 40 minutes before takes about 4 minutes now)
-The new auto white balance options are much more to my liking than what my cameras produced before
-Shooting in silent mode means no noise whatsoever, which is a godsend when shooting during wedding ceremonies
-New eye tracking autofocus is quite accurate in my tests though I havent tried it yet in client work.

    Cons:
-Because I´m primarily using F-mount lenses with an adapter, there´s no real decrease in weight over my DSLRs
-Battery life is less than I get from my D750
-Autofocus is not as reliable in dark situations (wedding receptions, onstage events) as my D750, though a recent firmware upgrade has brought some real improvements
-This camera is missing dual-card slots that I use on the D750 for redundancy--backing up each image to each of two cards
-Point metering (especially the spotlight point metering) doesn´t seem as sensitive as it had been previously
-I miss the 3D tracking mode my D750 had before
-It would be handy if the LCD screen could tilt more for shots perpendicular to the ground

    Conclusion:
I´m quite pleased with what I´ve gotten out of my Z6, so much that I´ve since purchased a second and have bought my first invest z-mount lens. The benefits of this camera (especially the EVF, in-body VR, and silent mode) make me a believer in its power and potential--as well as in mirrorless cameras in general. These steps forward make it feel like a wonderful time to be a photographer!

    Stellar image quality

    Posted by hiker206 on October 17, 2019

Very happy with the upgrade to the Z6 over my previous crop sensor Nikon. The image quality and dynamic range are fantastic. The auto-focus could definitely still use some improvement and hopefully they will push out some firmware updates. This camera has been amazing for landscapes and portraits where you have time to set the focus but has struggled a little with action shots.
