    Excellent!

Posted by Marvin Young on December 4, 2025

I'm in love with the ZR and haven't even scratched the surface of its capabilities. While I’m primarily a stills guy, video requests have rapidly increased in recent years. Usual gear up to this point has been two Z9 bodies with one Small Rig caged. My ZR caged has now replaced the caged Z9. Admittedly, I didn't know much about Red beyond that being the choice of many high-end creators. At some point, I’ll get down into the nitty-gritty of the codec and whatnot. My first Nikon body was the FG in my early 90s film days. Great initial offering!

Affordable small powerful cinema camera beast!

Posted by Asuquo E. on November 18, 2025

The ZR is one camera among all my Nikon gear that I love. This camera produced great images, especially when using R3D NE. Nothing out there for the price can match the specs and features of the ZR!

Great first attempt for a cinema camera from Nikon

Love this camera. The screen is amazing. Getting used to the buttons and controls were significantly different from other Z camera bodies. The power button is too easy to accidentally bump off and I would like to see a firmware update that requires a confirmation for powering off.

Zr is amazing and a Grand Slam home run

Posted by CAREY NUSSBAUM on November 17, 2025

I Love the ZR! Small but solid and I can take it anywhere! I bought it for the video which is fantastic and has so many options! I am a Photographer and want o do more video but I have to say the photo side of this camera is awesome! I never used a screen to take pictures so when I got this for video I was a little worried if I could use it without an EV. I have to say I am more than impressed with the gorgeous 4 inch screen and how easy it is to take photos and videos! I love my Z8 and Z6ii but with the smaller size and weight of the ZR I'll be able to travel around with the ZR without much weight! I love my Nikon stuff and the ZR is another grand slam homerun with the ZR! Thank You Nikon!

I am a amateur video person mainly using it for family and grandkids, I have a z63, a z8, and A z9. I would definitely like suggestions on setup, and settings to shoot grandkids

A game changer for cinema shooters

Posted by Abraham Kleinfeld on November 16, 2025

I love the camera's size, price, monitor and its Red RAW footage. I mostly shoot for fun, but do some limited professional work, and this camera is a game-changer for me. The only down side is the file sizes from R3D -- they are huge! Expect to invest in many terabytes of fast storage.

    Awesome Camera!

Posted by David Johnson on November 16, 2025

I bought the ZR Camera body and added the 28mm 2.8 lens, and will also be using the 28-400 Nikon lens at first. First results are like many Nikon Cameras very, very good. It is a lightweight, tremendously functional camera and I have yet to embrace the RED features.

    Great for photos and video

Posted by Bob Maschio on November 16, 2025

Great camera for photo and video. It took time to get used to have no viewfinder, coming from cameras that have always used a viewfinder. However, everything about this camera is great and seems like a great introduction to cinema cams.

The Nikon ZR - the Perfect Camera for Me

Posted by Alan Antiporda on November 16, 2025

The ZR is PERFECT for my needs! I am a bit biased as I’ve been a Nikon shooter since the late-70s and have invested in Nikkor lenses since then. I purchased the Z6 bacon in early 2019 for creating content and still use it, today. My biggest Complaint was the Autofocus, I’m dark complected, and would have to shoot talking heads several times (run and gun vlogs). Then there was the built-in codec, H.264, and attaching an external monitor was not an option, so color grading was limiting. I almost purchased the Z6III as it was On Sale, but saw the ZR Press release and Pre-ordered.After vlogging with it for 3 weeks, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed shooting the multiple codecs, the articulating 4” screen, built-in 32-bit float, design/ergonomics, ease of use, including the 4 user-definable shooting modes. The Autofocus works great in almost all lighting conditions, I have yet to miss focus. Although the RAW files are large, the low price of this camera allowed me to upgrade my computing environment to compensate. Albeit, it’s only been a few weeks of using the ZR, but it instills confidence when vlogging and producing content. BTW, the FTZ adapter works just flawlessly with all my Nikkor F-Mount lenses, as expected. On my wishlist for the ZR would be: 1) Improved Stabilization, 2) Implementation of the EL Zone system for better video exposure accuracy. Open Gate and Anamorphic Desqueeze, but not at the cost of Improved Stabilization. Again, my use case is for run and gun video without the need to “rig out” my camera and draw attention to me.
