    Great little RED camera

Posted by DAVID VAUGHN on November 16, 2025

I am enjoying small form factor, big monitor, power zoom toggle switch on camera for 28-135 f/4 PZ lens, and image sharpness especially at 6K R3D NE which also provides RAW flexibility in post. I like a shotgun mic without wires. Challenges with viewing monitor if bright from exposing video "to the right" with small WFM. Unable to consistently press selector switch straight into camera to select menu items but rather tend to toggle up or down when I do not want to. All-in-all, great value.

    Little beast

I feel the ZR has better low light and a cleaner image than the Red Gemini I use to have. Love the freedom of shooting with a small package.

    True Cinematic Quality

Posted by Victor M. Perez Pedrogo on November 16, 2025

The Nikon ZR 6K Cinema Camera is one of Nikon’s most impressive recent releases. As a professional photographer and cinematographer, I can say this camera delivers true cinematic quality in a compact and affordable package. Its biggest strengths are its excellent color science, natural skin tones, and strong dynamic range. The internal 6K RAW recording is a massive advantage, offering full professional flexibility without needing external recorders. The 32-bit float audio elevates sound quality dramatically, avoiding clipping even in unpredictable environments.Stabilization feels smooth, and the body is solid and comfortable for long shooting days. While it lacks some full-size cinema connections, it offers the best balance of quality, portability, and price in its class.Verdict: A powerful tool for independent filmmakers, professional videographers, and creators seeking true cinematic quality without overspending.

    Awesome Camera

Posted by Jack Holwerda on November 16, 2025

It is an incredible camera. Lightweight and packs a powerful punch with its Red codec. I shoot mainly video for personal use but used it for family outing for Halloween and was blown away by the low light capabilities and the beautiful video i got afterwards. I put it on a gimbal, and it was like i wasn't caring anything at all. I use all Nikon cameras and still have my Z8 which i love but for ease of use and incredible picture quality i will grab this camera as my first option. Not much negative but the tilt screen gets in the way if you have an external mic or other accessory hooked to the side

Nikon Zr hybrid photo/video cinema camera

Posted by Eric B. on October 31, 2025

The Nikon ZR is my first mirrorless camera, and it’s been a great introduction to hybrid shooting. It handles both stills and video really well, which makes it perfect for travel and creative projects.

I love the screen — it’s a perfect size and super useful for self-portraits and setting up shots with my wife — and the image quality is sharp and clean. Rolling shutter is something to be mindful of on this. My SB 700 flash works well on it. Being able to adapt my old Nikon F-mount lenses has been a nice way to to get used to the camera. It still requires some deep menu diving and time to set things up. There are some very useful YouTube videos that have been released in the last few weeks by Brandon Talbot. The nikkor 28mm f2.8 is an easy light intro lens for this body.

For video, the ZR produces beautiful footage in many codecs. I’ve even used the Sirui 40mm AF anamorphic lens with good results, though I do wish the camera had built-in anamorphic desqueeze. Anamorphic photography is also fun to mess around with on this.

It’s not without small trade-offs like not having open gate, not including RED traffic lights, but a lot of these aren’t completely necessary. Maybe Nikon will update things later, maybe not. Get the small rig grip if you think it’s hard to hold with bigger lenses. I think it’s great as a compact travel and video camera to make footage look cinematic. Switching to mirrorless from the d850 was easy with this. I still think the d850 is better in many ways for photos but the video footage that I created as a beginner on the ZR looked like a movie after minor editing on da vinci… and it was fun doing it with a small setup.. so for that, Nikon gets five stars.

I wanted to be the first reviewer. Haven’t had the product yet, but I just love their brand. Thanks, Nikon.
