Using Zfc to "Zoom In" 50% Closer

After owning the D850, I bought the Df because it's a "knob twirler" like the old days of film - my beloved Pentax K1000. And then the Zfc was announced - a mirrorless knob-twirler! I couldn't help myself and ordered it along with its kit lens, the 50-250mm lens, and the FTZ adapter. Sweet little camera! Perfect for having with me when I'm out and about and see a great photo op. Recently I gave away the D850/kit lens to my friend's husband and moved further into mirrorless with the Z7ii and FTZii. Two months ago, I went into the pasture to shoot the full moon with my Tamron 150-600mm mounted to the Z7ii/FTZii. Through the smoke of a forest fire in the distance, I grabbed some shots of a "spooky" moon rising over the hills. The next night, I decided to put the Tamron on the Zfc to try out what I'd read about using a crop-sensor camera to get an effective 50% magnification. Lo and behold, it worked! I effectively made the 600mm behave like a 900mm super-zoom! This is now my go-to tool for expanding my zoom options rather than using a 1.4x teleconverter. I absolutely love this little camera. It's fun, it's lightweight, it's powerful, and it gives me added flexibility in my photography. And I just ordered a pink one with kit lens so that my friend - who uses her iPhone for pics - can lose her fear of "real" cameras and have fun while we're out and about traveling or camping.

Great camera

I was reluctant to make the switch to mirrorless but this camera does not disappoint. The clarity of the pictures are outstanding, the retro look is beautiful, and the ease of use is amazing. I look forward to trying it out on portraits in the very near future.

Zfc

My first Nixon was a F series purchased in Nairobi Kenya in 1963 and since than many more Nicons to present day Z sereis,when I saw the Zfc ,this is it ,purchased using and just loving it and it looks and works like a dream and I can use most of my Nikon lenses including the old versions manual lenses.
Thank you Nikon for this star to brighten world.

My principal camera is a D850 but the Z FC is great as a 2nd and travel camera. Impressive performance.

I purchased this camera last year right after it became available. As a 70+ year old woman my doctor told me to put down my heavy equipment and get a light weight camera. I have to say I have thoroughly enjoyed this camera. I have taken pictures of my grandson in football last year and can say it did an amazing job. I used my 70-300 lens when taking the pictures. I also purchased the 16-50 kit lens and can say I am thrilled with this camera's performance. Yes there is a delay but nothing I can not live with. I just ordered the 50-250 lens and am excited to see how it will do with this camera.

Zfc

I wrote an earlier review of the Zfc and mentioned that I was a bit disappointed with the camera and that it was basically sitting unused on my desk because I didn’t think the viewfinder display was up to snuff—I haven’t completely made my peace with the viewfinder, but I have used the camera a lot more since I wrote that review. I have actually been enjoying using the camera and have taken some really great pictures with it. I have even managed to take some near-macro pictures of plants with the 16-50mm lens. The quality of the pictures is super and the camera is very easy to pop in a pocket or bag, or to put round one’s neck if out for a walk, which is what I have been doing. I love that the controls for exposure compensation, ISO, shutter speed are all easy to reach and use and the back view screen is really amazing. Could the display quality be better? Yes. But I am enjoying the camera nonetheless..
