    Familiar DNA

Posted by John R Green on January 11, 2022

Nice to be back with a solid great camera with a familiar DNA of past top of the line cameras. The Z9 does more than my work demands, but the innovations are greatly appreciated.

Posted by brian jablonski on January 11, 2022

wow....coming from a Z6ii ...was considering Canon and Sony for better autofocus for BIF and Sports...so glad I waited! this camera is awesome...sticky auto focus tracking, great ergonomics, well built, priced below what I was expecting ( Nikon, don't read "price increase" into this :)). not a pro but avid enthusiast....so pleased I pulled the trigger on this and the awesome 100-400 Z lens. great camera body for just about every type of shooting

Wedding & Event Photography Game Changer!

Posted by Mark McConnell on January 11, 2022

Upgrading from using D850 and D810's, I've been waiting before making the mirrorless change. When the first Z7 came out, it lacked a 2nd card slot which was a deal breaker when shooting weddings. Then the Z7ii came out and I almost went for it, but thought why not wait for a Z8 which would be that perfect event camera like the D850 is. But once I saw everything the Z9 was capable of doing and the most reasonable price for this level camera, it was time to stop waiting. Some huge game changing features for an event photographer coming from the D850 or lower.1. Low light focus is amazing! I think it lists ability to focus in -8 ev, and I can't really tell you if that is accurate to the number, but I can tell you that it will focus in just about pitch black conditions. The focus assist is so much better than what I've had to use with other cameras, which is basically the add on top of camera Flash focus assist which is hit or miss depending on where you have your focus point. It was too easy to miss a quick moment when the camera was focusing in and out trying to lock. The Z9 is super quick to lock on with very little contrast in your subject. 2- Eye detection. I've always used AF-S and single dot focus to move the focus point to my subjects eye and it always amazed me when shooting with some of my 2nd shooters that this wasn't something many are very good at. I guess I'll attribute my quick curser movement to gaming ;) But the Z9 takes all the guess work and lag time out of it. You can select the size of the field you want it to look for your subject and it will find the eyes within that field faster than I could ever do it.3-Size of focus field. Coming from dslr's where the area you could select to focus on a subject was pretty limited, now you have just about edge to edge focus points allowing you much better composition ability without having to focus lock and recompose.4-Portrait screen tilt. I usually do a few shots from a low vantage point which meant getting down and level to the camera to see your composition, now with the portrait screen tilt, I don't have to virtually lay on the ground anymore. There of course are a lot of nice to haves and I'm sure game changers for different styles of photography.I've not really gotten into the whole video thing mostly because Nikon cameras have never really been great at it, and I didn't want to invest into a whole new suite of glass for other brands, but now with the Z9, I might just have to get started. Here are a few downsides/suggestions--The weight of this thing will probably be a problem for some. It's heavier than the D850, plus you add more weight with the lens adapter until you switch your glass.-They removed the usual quick access button for meter matrix which doesn't make sense to me. When out in the field, I often switch what type of meter matrix I'm outdoors. Full meter for landscape and using a strobe on subject, and spot metering when I shoot without flash for natural light pics. Now having to fumble through menus is a little cumbersome, but I fixed it by customizing a function button for quicker access. To each their own, but there are so many more upsides to this amazing camera. -

    Impressed.

Posted by david dempsey on January 11, 2022

I've had the d850 for a year and a half now and have enjoyed every minute. The camera is not just one of the best dslr's out there it is built like a tank. And the z9 follows in it's foot steps. which is the only comparison where both camera's are equal from my time with the z9. I don't know if this will change in the future, but the z9 surpasses the d850 virtually at ever aspect. And I'm not talking about frame rates and autofocas. I'm talking about image quality. Noise. Some of the pictures I have been getting are a step higher in quality, from the colors to the sharpness to the bokeh.

Nikon Z9 and the Nikon Z lenses

Posted by howard libbey jr on January 11, 2022

The Z9 is worth the wait. Build quality, auto focus, features, value...all five star in my view. I've shot Nikon since the mid 70's and never once strayed away from this company. This new camera is a workhorse, what we need now....like VERY soon, is the Nikon Z telephotos to be available, not just announced. As for the existing Z glass, every Z lens I've purchased to date has been wonderfully sharp with more value than I even expected....Well done, beware of other reviews and forums on the web, The Z system is outstanding....no question about it.

    Setting the bar high

Posted by Jack Blalock on January 11, 2022

This is an awesome wildlife camera I matched it up with a 500 of lens. I can’t believe the quality of my photograph keeper rate. The only thing that needs improvement is me. I will keep learning about this fantastic camera. Thanks Nikon

    Remarkable Camera!

Posted by Eddie Moreno on January 11, 2022

Every new camera Nikon unleashes builds upon the previous generation. The Z9 is a giant leap forward with improvements in autofocus, tracking, color rendition, image quality, and overall performance. The camera is priced at a level that matches or exceeds its value. Once again, job well done Nikon!!!
