Do it and buy S series lenses!

Posted by Dale W. on June 23, 2025

Like all the rest, I am having to learn about all this camera can do. I grew up through the D5000 ,D750, D850 to the Z8. With some disappointment at first, my attitude has quickly changed in favor of the Z8. The secret is using Z mount, S series lenses, reading the owners manual and learning what this camera is capable of and putting them into use. Trial and error will teach you well and help in the perfect setup for your shooting applications and techniques. Mainly a nature shooter with the occasional gathering of friends and family I am getting this camera figured out. I have had this less then 3 weeks and have a lot more to learn and practice to perform. With what I have learned at this point, I am confident that I will be very pleased with the outcome of this investment in quality and state of the art features especially after the new firmware comes out. Don’t hesitate to purchase! You will be pleased.

    Major autofocus improvement from Z7

    Posted by mm2bek on June 13, 2025

Love the improved autofocus compared to the Z7 and looking forward to firmware 3.0 improvements. It is a lot more capable but complex in its effective setup to effectively optimize across wildlife, landscape, portraits and street photography.

Stepping up from Z7ii to the Z8

Posted by Michael B. on June 11, 2025

I really like it. Still learning how to use it to its fullest extent. Coming from the Z7ii I really appreciate the improved autofocus. Paired with my 180-600mm I’m having a blast shooting wildlife. Looking forward to lots of photos and memories.

    I have much to learn!!

Posted by Dennis F. on June 10, 2025

I have only had it for about a month, but WOW. I do, however, feel like a 7th grader walking into senior physics. I am stepping up from the D7500, and there is SO much to learn. But it is fun doing it. About the only place my old camera bested this one is battery life, but this has more computing power than the space shuttles did, so I expect it to like batteries.

    Loving it so far

Posted by MARK C. on June 9, 2025

So far, what I have seen using the Z8 is that it has incredible autofocus and is very fast. I can see there is a learning curve for sure. I have come from a D90 to D600 to D750 to D850, and I thought the 850 was the best overall, and the 750 was the best in low light, but getting out a little with the Z8, I can see there is a big difference.

    Unbelievable Camera!

    Posted by J Mark T. on June 8, 2025

I have been in the photography game since the film days. In 2007 I bought my first digital camera, the Nikon D90. It's been a wild and wonderful ride since then. I've always shot with Nikon cameras. I was shooting with the D850 when I decided it was time to go mirrorless. A few weeks ago I purchased the Z8 and the Nikon Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR. I wanted that setup for birds and wildlife. I LOVE IT! There is a little bit of a learning curve with learning how to utilize the awesome autofocus and tracking system. No worries. YouTube to the rescue. Once you figure out how you want to assign the F buttons then it's all about getting out and practicing. This is a fantastic camera and lens for birding. Especially for the money. I'm blown away. Nikon is back on top. I use my D850 as my backup camera and for everything but birds and wildlife. No more missing shots because of having to change lenses. Nikon also has a tremendous selection of glass for the Z line. You can also buy a converter for your DSLR glass to work on the Z line bodies. Don't hesitate to go mirrorless with the Z8. You won't be disappointed. Then get out and follow your passion!
