    Amazing.

Posted by Bob Thomson on July 11, 2023

Coming from the D850 I was hoping it would be just as good but wow this camera is amazing. I mainly shoot wildlife and small birds along with some landscape and I'am very impressed. The auto focus for BIF is amazing and my keeper rate is much higher than the D850. Nikon scored BIG with this camera and I'm very pleased with my purchase.

A mini Z9 that was suddently within reach from a budget and smaller size point of view.

Posted by Torben Ekvall on July 8, 2023

It is an amazing camera. I regard myself as Prosumer and added it to my Z7ii for the following reasons:1. Sensor shield (less hassle and concern when swapping glass)2. 2x USB and placed in the bottom and not top (I use the USB for all charging and all file transfer and access at the bottom should be default on all Z cameras in my opinion) 3. 4 axis tilting screen.4. Much better ergonomics for me because of bigger size and deeper grip compared to Z7ii.5. Much better ergonomics of the two dails... touch and feel like my old D7100. I find the daily on tge Z7ii to "Squarish".6. Litt buttons, great for indoor and evening night shooting. 7. Viewfinder is fantastic.A. In adding ofcourse the Z8 has much better autofocus where the Z7ii at least for wildlife is still disappointing me. Is still hoping for a FW that take advantage of 2xCPUs vs Z7.B. Fantastic speed (fps) and precapture in the Z8. Would love however if the 30 fps could be "fine" instead of just "normal" in resolution. There should be enough bandwidth as there are no RAW files to process. Comments.1. I am struggling with the memory bank compared to the much more intuitive U1-U3. Especially that the Banks are not "locked" like the U1-U3. I am an engineer and used to complicated setups and learn complex stuff but here I must admit I prefer the simpler U1-U3 design. Also because you don't need to enter a menu but can do it with a HW dail. A suggestion is to make a FW update with the U1-U3 concept (as an option for non proff shooters) and then it can be assigned to a user defined botton for toggling.2. Would love to see Auto capture in the Z8 in the next FW upgrade.3. I never used the Z7ii or Z8 for video so therefore no comments from me on that front.Happy shooting.Br Torben

    Love it.

I absolutely love this camera. It is a handful but the ergonomics are a perfect fit for my wide hands. The controls work better for me. On my Z6 I have a problem hitting the focus comp button when making adjustments and it messed with my exposure. I do not have that issue with the Z8. I am also amazed by the focus system. I use 3D mostly. It looks on so quickly I a bit amazed. It has taken me a bit set it up. I used a few Z9 users that we're testing the Z8. They did set up videos and I used their recommendations. I am also enjoying the A, B, C and D settings. I now use three renamed files I use for walk around shots, Church baptisms and wildlife. This is a first for me. I never was comfortable with the individual user selection on my other Nikons. I am really glad I made the purchase.

    A game changer

Posted by Cephas Hobbs on July 6, 2023

This camera is awesome, I guess Nikon already knows that. Once properly set up in the shooing banks there isn’t anything it can’t do. Nikon should be greatful to Hudson Henry for his YouTube channel. I don’t think you could learn the operation of this camera from a manual.

I'm not mad, the Z8 delivers

Posted by Mario Rodriguez on July 5, 2023

Having a Z6 Z7 Z6II in addition to a D750 I find the Z8 to be mind blowng, mind you though I get paid to photograph cars, I don't consider myselfa conoseour, I learn something new everyday and hope I can learn a lot about video from my Z8.Right off the bat, the camera fits great in the hand, but coming from the lighter mirrorless cameras the Z8 feels heavy right off the bat. I had the D750 begore and feel the Z8 to be heavier food for thought, I do give it 5 stars for tech and ergonomics.

Best Balance of Ergonomics, Ease of Use & Power

Posted by Scott Aronian - ProppGuerin on July 4, 2023

I've used many Nikon's since 1973 and the Z 8 feels like one of the best, certainly my favorite digital. It's easy to hold feeling solid in the hand. Appreciate the Nikkor Z lenses as well as the ability to use most any F-Mount.Dual CF Express slots would have been a nice addition.

    Great Camera!

Such a fantastic camera! I use it for birding and it is absolutely wonderful. I love the bird eye focus and the ability to change the focus area box to a size and shape you want. The pictures are color rich beautiful. Paired with my Nikon 500pf, it’s my favorite combo.

    Magic

Posted by Steve Newton on July 2, 2023

I purchased a Nikon D7100 nine years ago when I retired, and I enrolled in a local beginning photography course. I later owned a D750 and a Z6ii, but I was always waiting for the “D850 replacement” to come along. Having just purchased the Z8, it seems a bit magic! My images are better and I find that I have more confidence when I shoot with this camera. The improved image stabilization and increased image quality make me want to shoot every chance I get. It truly is magic.

    Nikon Z8 Camera

Posted by JOHN PENNOYER on July 2, 2023

Over many years my Nikon cameras have been: FE, FE2, N90, F100, D100, D200, D300. D800, D850, and now the Z8. My D850 is now my backup camera, and no question this is the best Nikon I have owned and have taken probably 3000+ images in just 4 weeks in all sorts of ambient light and weather situations and many images handheld out of my kayak! I also use the Nikon Vertical battery grip and the two batteries is a bonus for extra power to increase shooting time. A real pain to have to change batteries when in kayak plus when handholding going from horizontal to vertical shooting is a breeze.
