Good Z9 and almost great D850

Posted by Alicia Ramirez on July 24, 2023

Great, but... If you present the camera Z8 as a substitute for the D850, where is the Function to digitize negative? both in black and white and in color. Even to be able to reap out the benefits of the ES-2. It could easily be included as a Picture Control; Negative Monochrome and Negative Color,

    One Hundred Year Birthday Party

Posted by George Kush on July 23, 2023

I own a Z9 and a Z7II, and the Z8 fits perfectly in the middle. I used the Z8 and the Z9 at a 100th year birthday party and the Z8 was much easier to use and move around all the guests then the Z9. The Z8 size and weight makes it an ideal camera to use with all of the Z lenses.

The Z 8 is a huge step forward!

Posted by Daniel Cardona on July 20, 2023

I own a D850 and Z 7II, both of which perform beautifully and are still in use. But, the Z 8 is a huge step forward in speed, focusing ability and focusing options. There is a learning curve, but the Z8’s learning curve has been fun as I discover so many autofocus options and programming options. You did it again, Nikon!

    Love the Z8

Posted by SUSAN N/A on July 19, 2023

FANTASTIC! I've been shooting with the Z6 and Z7-2. I love the speed of the Z8! Focusing is a breez. Tracking subjects is remarkable! For the most part, going back and forth between the Z8 and Z7-2 or Z6 is easy (except that a couple buttons moved - but that's minor!)I love the shutter protecting the sensor. I like silent photography, and had the setting to close the shutter when powered off. I didn't think about the impact of this on other settings, though. It took a bit to figure out why Long Exposure Noise Reduction was grayed out (disabled). Thankfully internet posts answered my question - I had silent photography enabled, which means the shutter is always opened while shooting. LE NR requires closing the shutter which makes a noise. It would be nice if the option were not grayed out, of if the "?" on the option gave some information as to why it's grayed out. Also, if Long Exposure NR is enabled, the Silent Photography option is still available. Hmmm. Testing this out, I noticed after selecting Silent Photography ON, that the LE NR showed "ON" while grayed out. Hmmm That's a bit confusing. I took a photo to see if LE NR was really "ON" or not. The Noise Reduction was NOT performed. Perhaps the intent is to remember if Silent Photography is toggled the LE NR setting will be retained. LESSON LEARNED: If you want to use LE NR, remember to turn off Silent Photography. User Interface Suggestion:On Long Exposure Noise Reduction: Add statement when "?" is selected. "Long Exposure Noise Reduction is disabled when Silent Photography is turned ON"DATA COMPRESSION: the Z6 and Z7-2 have "NONE" as an option. The Z8 only shows compression options (lossless, High Efficiency*, and High Efficiency) what happened to "NONE"? Is Loseless 100% equivalent to NONE? If so, why do the z6 and z7 series include "NONE" and Lossless?

Great camera that could be made better

Posted by Jonathan Zhang on July 16, 2023

It’s a great camera with good combination of still and video features, it would be even better if pre-release can capture RAW softwareand Nikon could have a video editing software for its NRAW files.

Onboard GPS/GNSS on all Pro-sumer Camera Bodies

Posted by TC CHRISTENSEN on July 16, 2023

I've really been looking forward to this camera! First thoughts are I love it! This is my first real mirrorless camera (unless you count the N1V1 series). I am disappointed I will need to send my camera back due to the lens mounting issue. That said, my BIGGEST complaint is "why no onboard GPS/GNSS Nikon?" We can't buy the GP1 anymore and geotagging photos is very important to me for geospatial applications (e.g., rich media in geographic information systems (GIS) like Esri's ArcGIS Pro). Please, please, please make onboard GPS/GNSS standard on all camera bodies, especially the pro-sumer cameras. Also, please bring the map view back to NX Studio.

The New Z8 Wins the Hearts, Souls, and Heads of Photographers

Posted by Dennis Hughes on July 12, 2023

My new Z8 is one superb camera. I've also shoot a Z7ii but this Z8 tops everything. It has the features of the Z9 in a smaller package. The options in setting up the Z8 are almost unending. You can configure this camera to landscapes to portraits to sports to birds in flight and the airshows. The new Z lens are also a treat. Nikon hit the jackpot again with the Z8.

    Fantastic

Posted by BRANDON AUSTIN on July 11, 2023

Couldn’t be more impressed. A pleasure to use, focus is fast and consistent. Size is good, a bit bigger and heavier than my 6II obviously, but still comfortable to walk around with. Definitely recommend.
