The Nikon Z8 is the Camera I've Been Waiting For!
Posted by Duiane Lyken on October 26, 2025
As a longtime Nikon pro who moved from the D850 to the Z system, the Nikon Z8 is the camera I’ve been waiting for. It is the perfect marriage of DSLR ruggedness and cutting-edge mirrorless speed, completely erasing any thought of switching brands. My dual Z8 setup is a game-changer: one dedicated to lightning-fast stills and the other handling high-resolution video. The stacked sensor and Z9-level autofocus have revolutionized my keeper rate for photography. For video, the internal RAW recording and image quality are superb. However, hybrid shooters must be prepared: the Z8’s power demands top-tier accessories.Pro Tips for Maximum Video Performance:Card Upgrade is Mandatory: You must use the fastest CFexpress Type B cards (VPG400+ recommended) for high-resolution, high-frame-rate video. Slower cards will throttle recording and generate heat.Overheating is Manageable: While the compact body can run hot during extended 8K or 4K/120p shoots, this is easily managed. Simply enable the High Temperature setting and use external USB-C power or a metal camera cage to help dissipate heat. Opening the screen/card door during short breaks also helps immensely. The Z8 is a massive leap forward, offering performance that completely justifies the upgrade from the D850 and Z7II.

Excelete, Robusta y confiable.
Posted by Christian Brizuela on October 16, 2025

Fantastic Camera
Posted by Marc Farley on October 16, 2025
I upgraded to the Z8 from the Z7. I am so glad I upgraded to the Z8. The autofocus system has been greatly improved since I bought the Z7. I take a lot of surfing photos and I could see a clear difference using the Z8. The Z8 does a great job locking in on the surfer providing more in focus photos. What I wish the Z8 had were user settings. That is you could have settings set up for certain types of photography. I have tried to use the new user banks but I haven't got the swing of using the custom user banks. I have even watched 3 or 4 videos on how to set them up. But that is somewhat minor in the overall performance of the Z8. Overall I love the Z8. It feels good to hold with its nicely designed grip and has a good weight. I also love the lighted buttons on the back. I went to take Milky Way photos one night and the lighted buttons came in handy. I have been a Nikon user for 20 years and have been very happy with all my previous Nikon cameras. The Z8 is one incredible camera. You won't be disappointed if you buy one.

Nikon Z8
Posted by James Moye on October 15, 2025
Having shot Nikon since the1990’s I have witnessed them grow through many different stages, I can honestly say that this is one of the finest cameras that I’ve ever owned with plenty of capabilities to tackle just about anything I personally do!I look forward to many years of enjoyment from this camera and all the other previous Nikons that I still own.

Upgraded to Z8 from D800
Posted by steven f. on October 1, 2025
Like other reviews I have seen here, it is too early to be comprehensive with my review of the Z8. I have shot Nikon since 1982, and have watch the capabilities grow beyond my wildest dreams. Movement of the users manual to a pdf format on the web page is probably a smart move, as the shipping cost increase due to the weight of a 900+ page manual would have been tremendously expensive - the pdf now lives on my phone, accessible anywhere. The difference between the Z9 and my D800 is astounding. The speed of operation is amazing, and the backward compatibility of the lenses with a ZTN adapter makes this upgrade. The increase of the sensor to 45.7 from the D800 36.2 is a hugh step for me, bringing greater sharpness and sensitivity to my images.Unfortunately, the battery backward compatibility is not there, but is understandable, due to the Z8 higher power demands. So just a subdued grumble on that. But at the price for the body, throwing in a second battery would be a boon.So far, I am loving the wide range of capabilities the Z8 brings, and am digging into tutorials on the webpage and Youtube, and may follow up later in the journey.

Z8 missing printed manual
Posted by Louis C. on September 29, 2025
Too early to tell but i like the feel and the familiarity of the controls. I had many Nikon’s over the years, just recently moved from a 850 to the Z8. I am disappointed Nikon to the cop out saying they were saving me money by not providing a printed manual. With the capabilities of the Z8 having a manual in my bag would be great. Electronics present their problems in the field. Maybe provide an option for people like myself to get a printed manual i can take in the field.

Fantastic camera
Posted by Brianw4paj on September 25, 2025
This is a fantastic camera. My only issue is that I purchased it along with the 24-70mm 2.8 S. A few days after receiving this combo, Nikon made the 24-70 2.8 SII available for purchase. I wish there uup some upgrade process so I could get the latest lens.

Pro camera to buy
Posted by EDWARD S. on September 23, 2025
As a full-time, professional photographer, I needed a pro camera. The Z8 is that pro camera. I have two Z8s, and I have no problem with the menu and educating myself about the numerous capabilities of the cameras. Auto focus is fast and good in really low light, especially with the focus assist beam. A significant advantage is the automatic sensor cover, which activates when the lens is removed. No chance for dust to get on the sensor. Get the S-class Z lenses and a high-speed card, and you're all set to be the photographer you want to be.

The Z8 is Great

An amazing camera. Moving from a D600 to the Z8 was smoother than I anticipated. I hope to enjoy this camera for many years to come.
