The Z8 is an amazing camera. But I prefer the look, feel and touchscreen of my Zf.

The Z8 is an amazing camera. But I prefer the look, feel and touchscreen of my Zf. I would love to see Nikon produce a retro, Zf-style, 45 megapixel Z camera.

Not Impressed
Posted by Steve Cirinna on March 29, 2026
I have not been impressed with the quality of the images that I have been getting from the Z8. I would have expected that they would be much sharper than my 6ii. As primarily a sports photographer, the images I get are not nearly as tack sharp as those from my 6ii. I've seen forums and comments that say it's the lenses that I use are not fast enough or sharp enough, but they are the same ones I use with my 6ii. I have to spend much more time editing, particularly sharpening the pics. I have been considering returning the Z8 but there are some excellent features that are not available on any other Nikon camera except the Z9, such as a much higher frame rate and a practically nonexistent rolling shutter distortion issue.

A most amazing camera..!
Posted by tom Carey on March 28, 2026
I have shooting Nikon cameras for 49 years, loved them all. I bought my last little yellow box of film in 2004, when I got the D200, I was absolutely blown away with that technology..Then D300, D800, all good. When I got the D850 I thought nothing could be better than that, what an amazing camera, wow...But, I was curious about mirrorless, and bought the Z8...Holy cow, completely blown away again, simply amazing piece of modern technology. I love it. But, the battery needs last longer and we need more free tutorials, etc..

Excellent but spoiled by the Z9
Posted by Dave Shelton on March 22, 2026
I mostly photograph wildlife. The Z9 spoiled me so there are things I miss when I use the Z8, but not enough not to love using it. I wish it had two CF Express cards and the batteries lasted longer but, it’s also not the same price as the Z9. For a backup camera and days I want to travel light, it cannot be beat. I’m happy to have it.

Amazing

High five to the developers and engineers! The Nikon Z8 is so solid. The best camera I’ve ever purchased. I’m fairly new to digital cameras. Already taking great photos and the Z8 technology will help me grow into video. Here are a couple of shots I got today.

Very pleased
Posted by Karl Shreeves on March 18, 2026
I’ve been a Nikon shooter for more than 40 years; when things went digital, Nikon’s first models were a bit behind the other brands. But, I’ve always loved Nikon’s lenses and interface so I stayed Nikon — and am glad I did. Today Nikon at the top, and the Z8 is a shining example. It is user friendly and intuitive. Its AI autofocus is a step up, and it tracks people (my usual subject) even in surprisingly low light. Shooting in portrait orientation, the display reorients accordingly, which I love because I shoot that way a lot (my main reason for using the battery grip, which is a seamless part of the Z8 if you use it). Image quality is what you expect from Nikon. My only “I wish” is that it had User Saved modes like the Nikon 7ii that hold all settings until you resave them — but that is minor.
