Odd Button Layout.
Posted by GLENN LANCASTER on February 10, 2026
The Nikon Z 6-II is a great camera - so why did I rate it at only a four star? The layout of selection buttons are a bit troublesome for me. I own four F mount Nikons (D5100, D300, D700, D800) and have never had an issue with reaching the selector buttons. To me, the Z 6-II, which is way smaller than the D series, could have placed the buttons in similar location to avoid confusion. Now on a very positive note, the camera is easy to handle, light weight and captures crisp, tack sharp pictures in full FX frame. Of course, a camera is only as good as the lenses attached to the body. Using the FTZ II adapter the eleven Nikkor F mount lenses I have net great results that are very sharp. My cat, Stella, let me test my 35mm prime lens on her, the results tell the tale. When you can count the hairs on her chin - it's tack sharp.

Absolutely fantastic!
Posted by Antti Patrikka on February 1, 2026
I was about to get a Canon R6 Mark 3, but there are no decent and affordable primes for the R system. So I found a used 20mm Z for half the list price, and I found a used Z6 Mark 2 at the same place. Could not be happier! The image quality is stellar, and I have the best 20mm on Earth to boot.

Great upgrade!
Posted by Robert Gray on January 30, 2026
The camera itself is great! I decided to upgrade because Niikon and other manufacturers don't make DSLR lenses anymore. It's a step up from my older D5300 that I've had for over 5 years. The button functions and their placement will take some time to get used to, but the camera takes good, sharp, clean shots. I shoot a variety of things, macros, landscapes, nature, abandoned buildings, special events, so I don't use the settings memory buttons (F1,F2) at all, but some folks might. Of course I'll have to pick up an FTZ adapter to use all of my lenses while I slowly build up my accessory stock for the new camera. And may I say that the finance company Nikon uses for payments is horrible and misleading? Use your local bank for a loan to buy the camera, better rates, more options.

Great Camera
Posted by Rex Whittington on January 27, 2026
This is a fantastic camera for its intended use. This camera is perfect for someone getting seriously into the hobby, or taking their hobby to the next level. I bought this as a hobby camera and to start dabbling at selling some photos. The Z6 II is a solid camera, it’s made very well. The controls can be as simple or complicated as you make them. The instruction manual is less than useful if you are not familiar with Nikon. Goggle is your friend here but can feed you too much information in a short period of time. I am going to be using this camera for everything. However I have primarily been using it for landscape, sunrise, sunset, and wildlife (birds). I have not had it long enough to truly put it thru its paces. I use it solely for photography. I do not use its video capabilities. Its color capturing is very nice and true to what you are seeing. One big negative is its battery life. I have been getting a couple of hours on a battery when using for birds at a feeder and shooting a lot of pictures. The cold can drain these batteries, too. I bought a grip for this just to help with the battery issue. The Nikon grip is over priced. Shop after market products, it isn’t worth the $400.00+ more than the after market ones. Mine has not had a glitch yet.

Awesome little camera
Posted by Kenny A Cordova on December 26, 2025
I recently upgraded from my old Nikon D2x to the z6ii and couldn't be more equipped and happy. It took a week or so to get used to the digital view finder and the minimal haptic feedback compared to my DSLR but the features and the low light capabilities are astounding. I went for the z6ii instead of the z6iii because I didn't need the flip screen and the minor improvement in R/W speed isn't a concern for me the only thing I wish the z6ii had was pixel shift shooting mode which the z6iii has.

Best purchase I've made in a while
Posted by Steven Macias on December 6, 2025
This is my first new camera in 30 years. I just recently got back into photography and after a few months of using various film cameras, I decided to go digital. I chose the Z6II after a lot of research. And with the sale Nikon had, it was a no brainer. I've only had it for a week and so far it's been great. I paired this with a Nikkor 40/2.

Just perfect
Posted by tonyb2760 on September 12, 2025
A perfect combination of features, performance and image quality in a compact and lightweight package. I would and do use the Z6II for every genre of photography, especially my macro . The 24 mp makes a perfect file size for multiple stacks with editing task becoming a breeze. I am astounded at the quality of the finished image. I have nothing but praise for this camera. It compliments my Z7II and Z8 very well. Highly recommended.

Awesome camera! More compact and lightweight than a DSLR, and it's also quicker anymore responsive to the touch. All around excellent mirrorless camera!
