It's like my Z8 has been reborn

Posted by Richard Longenecker on September 30, 2024

The Nikkor Z 180-600mm is my first attempt at using a telephoto zoom lens of this magnitude. I've had the Z8 for one year before getting this lens and its now an entirely different camera experience. But its an education in photography I didn't expect. How my Z8 now behaves in different situations has me completely re-exploring my photographic technique. If the shot isn't right is it me or my lens? It's usually me. So the thrill of learning photography continues. I even bought two new tripods to compliment this lens. Its not just a new lens; it's as though my Z8 has been given maturity I didn't know it had.

    Punching above it's price.

Wonderful upgrade from the beast of the 200-500 F mount. Well balanced and great range. Quicker both in focus and zoom (obviously) as well as just all around much more balanced. Image quality is fantastic for a non S line lens. My only issue was after testing the weather sealing for several hours shooting in rain was the next day, which was dry and warmer with sun, the lens developed a little internal moisture flaring on the elements. It did eventually clear up and the atmospheric changes over the 2 days was a bit so I am sure the lens just had to adjust to temp/moisture but it did require me to switch to another lens for the meantime.

    Excellent lens/Affordable price

What can I say, this lens has me on a permanent awww. I switched from the Nikon AF-S 500mm f/5.6E PF ED which it is a more expensive lens. I was hesitant to switch, thinking a prime lens is faster when it comes to AF. This lens offers absolutely stunning sharpness, fast AF. I am not going to li, I am still adjusting to the weight when it comes to flying birds. This is an excellent lens if you enjoy nature photography, specifically birding. I had to wait several months, but worth it.

First Impression of Nikkor 180-600 Zoom Lens.

Posted by Stuart Konecky on April 19, 2024

Having patiently waited, I recently acquired the Nikkor 180-600 zoom lens for my Z6II camera. The results? Pure delight—I couldn’t be happier! The images are sharp and what you would expect from Nikon. It may not belong to the S line of lenses, but there’s no compromise in quality. This lens boasts a robust construction and integrates seamlessly with my Z6II. I'm impressed with the lens design and ergonomics. The only slight downsides are the lens’s generous size and its noticeable weight. However, these characteristics are entirely expected for a top-tier zoom lens with such impressive reach.

    Top value wildlife lens.

Posted by Gordon Runkle on March 26, 2024

While not an S lens, the NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR comes very close, delivering excellent image quality at long ranges. I admit that I was initially skeptical about a telephoto with this wide range of focal lengths at this price point. I am happy to say that my experience with this lens has greatly exceeded my expectations. Well done, Nikon!

    Awesome Lens- Great Value

Excellent lens couple with my Z8- the short barrel turn to go from 180-600, I can keep my eye on my subject. AF is fast and accurate. I never use a monopod / tripod, pictures are sharp and clear. The function button on the lens, I use as DX mode as needed.
