Phenomenal Lens – A Must-Have for Z-Mount Telephoto Shooters!
Posted by Shayne Brittain on April 6, 2025
I recently purchased the NIKKOR Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR S, and it has absolutely exceeded my expectations in every way. From the moment I mounted it on my Z8 camera, I could tell this lens was built with precision and professional-grade quality.Image Quality: The sharpness across the zoom range is incredible. Whether I’m shooting wildlife, sports, or landscapes, the results are crisp with excellent contrast and beautiful color rendition. Even wide open, this lens performs brilliantly.Autofocus: Fast, accurate, and silent – it locks on to subjects quickly, even in challenging lighting. Paired with eye-detection AF on Z cameras, it makes wildlife and bird photography a dream.Build and Handling: The lens feels solid and durable but is surprisingly lightweight for its range. The zoom ring is smooth and well-damped, and the customizable function buttons are a great touch for quick access to settings.Vibration Reduction (VR): The built-in VR is superb. I’ve handheld shots at 400mm with slower shutter speeds than I thought possible and still came away with tack-sharp images. This lens is a true workhorse and has already become one of my favorites in my kit. Nikon nailed it with the 100-400mm Z – if you’re serious about telephoto photography, this is a worthy investment.

Great lens for wildlife.

The small size and low weight make it ideal for birds and wildlife. It works very well with the Nikon Z 1.4 TC

First Z lens

My first Z lens and it's working great. It adds a lot of versatility over the 500PF that I have been using.

Good quality relatively light weigh zoom lens
Posted by Thomas Leach on March 1, 2025
I purchased this lens for Motorsport photography based on its image quality and light weight. It will be used on my z9 primarily. My only complaint is the poor quality hood. For version 2 of the lens I suggest removing some buttons and adding a carbon fiber hood

Great lens - very pleased
Posted by Derek Turner on December 11, 2024
Really pleased with this lens, fitted it on Z7_II and works like a dream, as it should. So far only used it in low light with ASA set to max of 2500 and very pleased with results, super sharp given the conditions. Tend to use a monopod when photographing birds but it’s balance with the Z7 is very good and in right light you may not need support. Thoroughly recommend it.

Great value zoom lens.
Posted by Edward Episcopo on September 16, 2024
I think the 180-600 is an excellent value for the price. I love the internal zoom, sharpness and the balance. I also like having a programable function button on the lens. I use it all the time to recall settings when conditions change suddenly. If I'm shooting BIF with a fast shutter speed and manual ISO, I can quickly switch to a slower shutter speed and auto ISO, if a beaver swims by. Another press of the button and I'm ready to photograph BIF again. This works on my Z8, but options are limited on my Z6 III. I hope they can improve that with a firmware update at some point.
