    The Best Lens

Truly Amazing Lens, I use it as my priamry

A truly great zoom that can replace primes in most instances

Posted by Wyn Lewis-Bevan on May 8, 2023

Excellent lens, beautiful quality images in reasonably well-lit environments with great bokeh. Would have been nice if had a constant f/4.5 aperture and internal zooming, but its a small package, and you can't have everything! Using it at events and for larger wildlife shots. The advantages of this tele zoom outweigh any disadvantages and the need for prime optics in most instances. This lens has replaced my trusty f/5.6 500mm PF on the last couple of wildlife trips, adding versatility and less lenses.

A splendid lens; a joy to use.

Posted by Allan Wood on May 7, 2023

Following tests with a borrowed Z 100-400 VR S, I purchased my own for use on a Z 7II. This has exceeded my expectations even for the few wild life photos I take. The zoom range is perfect for my use. Balance through the zoom range is great, and the lens as fast to focus as I expected. The weight I understand to be reasonable for a lens of this type; handle by the lens, not the camera (standard practice for all larger lenses). While I do use a tripod depending on circumstances I found the lens quite easy to use hand held; no hand shake as a result. I traded in a 70-200 f/2.8 as I very rarely or never use f/2.8.

A Lot Reach in a small package

Posted by Jack Blalock on May 6, 2023

This lens was my go to lens for a 7 day trip to the Galápagos Islands. It is well balanced and the weather sealing is appreciated. I also took my 70-200mm but only used it one afternoon. I was amazed at the results this inexpensive lens is able to produce. Paired with the Z9 it is very well balanced.

    Best Zoom Lens

Posted by Frank Ventre on September 8, 2022

Recently purchased this Z S-Series lens to battle with my D850 - AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 G ED VR. By far this is the most balanced, light weight, all-around superior product. It clearly meets my attribute of lower weight and high-performing lens. I now have it paired in my daypack with my other NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S. Great pair for all my landscaping and nature shots. Currently, it is mated to the original Z6. Nikon keep up the Great work and give US the Z8. :) LeMans Photography

I am amazed at the detail and clarity I get with this lens. Was impressed and than I took a hand held shot at 400mm @ 1/60th. My now favorite lens blew me away.

    This lens does not disappoint!

Posted by Kimberly Ridley on January 30, 2022

I've been waiting for this lens since I got my Z7II at Christmas 2020. Absolutely phenomenal sharpness in the few pictures I have taken. Also got the 2X converter. What an awesome combination. Not too heavy, yet the quality is undeniable. Nikon has hit this one out of the park. Can't wait to get out and do some wildlife shooting.

I’m really impressed with the build and optical quality of this lens. Used with my Z7 II for mostly nature photography and I am pleased with the purchase so far.

    Perfect for my needs.

Posted by Dennis Maxwell on January 12, 2022

I purchased a 200-500 several months ago for bird photography. I found that lens to be pretty unwieldy. I longed for the Z 100-400 to be available as a lightweight companion to my Z50 travel camera. The lens is everything I hoped for..
