Makes existing Nikon lenses fully compatible with the Z cameras
Posted by Julius on March 11, 2019
It is a great advantage to be able use all my existing Nikon lenses with full compatibility on my Nikon Z6 and Z7 bodies.

Won´t notice it´s there, which is a good thing
Posted by JimLosAltos on March 11, 2019
Used the FTZ to shoot with my 105mm f1.4 on the Z7. Worked seamlessly. Focus was responsive in moderate light and the resultant photos excellent. Haven´t done a test to prove this, but adding image stabilization to the 105mm could be a great benefit given some of the low light situations where this lens shines, maximizing its speed. Also, being able to mount the 105mm on Z7 adds ´´silent shutter´´, which I needed for attached photo since clicking would have been unacceptable. Will be trying with a 300 2.8 later this week. My only complaint is that I´d like a variant with an integrated, switchable TC, since I´m not eager to add two items between the lens and the body.

Works but inelegantly.
Posted by garyphx on March 11, 2019
I find this adapter to be needlessly clunky. It is a little heavy for what it is. Maybe something from carbon fiber or a material lighter than aluminum. Also, the foot portion should be removable; not everyone will use this with a heavy F lens on a tripod. Finally, this fits well on my Z6 but lenses are very tight. I find pushing the lens into the adapter makes attachment more smooth. Overall a collision of form and function that could have been done better. But they didn´t ask me.

Great new addition to my bag!
Posted by Raytin on March 11, 2019
I received my Z7 and FTZ just before I went to Hawaii and used it exclusively over my D5 and was very impressed. I used the FTZ to mount my 80-400 lens and 24-70 f2.8 lens. I was really impressed when I found that the Z7 would auto focus when I added a 2X adapter behind the 80-400 f4 lens. My D5 will not do that! The low light capability of the Z7 is nearly as good as my D5. So to sum it up the Z7 is going to be a great replacement for my D4. The fact that it uses the same card as my D5 is a real plus, if it used the same battery as the D5 I would be in hog heaven.

FTZ

The FTZ works just like it is a part of the camera. No negative issues and nothing nut praise.

Using the F to Z mount
Posted by Z6Fan on March 11, 2019
I have the Z6 and use the FTZ mount which allows me to use the Micro 105 and other F mount lenses I currently own. It is easy and convenient to use. While I still have my F mount camera body, I don´t always want to carry both when I need to limit how much gear I bring along.

Works very well on 99% of the lenses I´ve tried.
Posted by stormdoctor on March 11, 2019
I purchased the Z7, adapter and the 24-70 F4 lens. I really like the camera and I´ve used it on
my collection of Nikon lenses. I have too many lenses! So I´ve been able to use the Z7 with the
adapter on the current crop of AF-S lenses. I have not found any problems. I have used it on
some older MF lenses and they work too, in stop-down metering mode with M or A metering. I own
several of the older fish-eye lenses (I am a University professor and researcher so I was
attracted these old lenses) and they work! These are the ones with the protruding back element
that requires mirror-lock up with an SLR. So I can use the 8mmF8, 7.5mmF5.6, 10mm OP F5.6
and the 6 mm F5.6 (yes 6 mm, very rare and not the 6mm F2.8). Also the 180-600 F8 ED
zoom. So I am pleased with all of this. I have the 300 F2.8 AF-I (predecessor to the AF-S)
and it works fine too. I have the 600mm F4 AF-I and for some reason the camera gives me
the FEE error message, as if the lens was not locked at the smallest F-stop. So this is a
disappointment. The lens mounts correctly with the adapter, just like the 300 mm AF-I. I am
hoping that the problem is a software issue. There is really no reason I can think of why
it should not work. So I am waiting for a fix. FYI, I´ve also used the Z7 with 3rd party adapters
to lenses like Canon FD, Leica-M. -

Weak
Posted by Aperture on March 11, 2019
Went three rounds with Nikon service and the z7 and most likely the lens mount did not like my old lenses to the point of defaulting the camera. Bought the 28-300 lens new and all´s good. If your lens is as old as mine, ten plus years, it might need a cleaning to shake hands. This is a $400 plus service and my 17-35 and probably my 28-70 will need cleaning. They probably need it but they work fine on my other bodies. So thus the name of this review, I think the adapter is weak in power and performance.
By the way the service team bent over backwards to please this grumpy guy. -

great for F mount lens, tripod mount poorly designed
Posted by NohrPhoto on March 11, 2019
It is great that it works with all my older lenses, but the tripod mount isn´t designed very well. It is at a different height than the body and thus interferes with my arca type mounts. I often have to remove the body one or the adapter one in order to remove the adapter. The adapter mount should have either been removable or rotatable to avoid this problem. The adapter also seems to be on the heavy side, a shame when the Z6 is such a nice light body.
