Great option if you are on a budget

I´ve been using this lens for a few months off and on with a D5300. The only thing that isn´t great about this lens is the auto focus. It constantly rotates the dial back and forth, and I´ve waited minutes for it to either take the image, or I just turn the camera off. So I pretty much only shoot in manual. I did notice this problem would get worse the more you zoomed in you get.
Despite the auto focus, I´m happy. I was looking for an inexpensive macro lens for product photography, and I found this one does the job. -

It´s ok..

I was expecting this lens to take better images of things far away but it doesn´t really do all that great. The product description made it seem like this lens would do more than just a close-up images. But the images I have taken that are far away did not come out good at all. now take a picture of something with in several inches of the lens and you get a fantastic image with a very shallow depth of field. So in the respect of taking pictures of small things like a pinch of dirt or hermit crab or a butterfly or a bug or a snowflake or close ups this lens is pretty awesome. I do think the product description should be changed slightly to reflect the correct function of this lens.

What a pleasant little surprise

I do a lot of macro photography, not bugs or snowflakes, but what the old folk would call ´´copy work´´. I am documenting family memorabilia which includes medals, trinkets and many many photographs and documents. I need to be mobile and I need a lens that fits on a Dx D7200 body. Dx lenses for Dx bodies. I have and use a 60mm but this lens is much smaller, lighter and has excellent image quality. It fits better in the bag and thus allows me more opportunity. The problem with this lens is that I think it´s sharper and better than the 35mm f1.8, about which everyone raves ... so, I am adapting this lens for portraits and for panoramic stitching projects also. At this size, weight and price, it is perfect for many purposes.

From now on, my favorite lens...

I am so glad that I did purchase this compact lens. Finally i can do close ups and portraits with same lens its also good for landscape shots. I paired this lens with my old D80 witch is still good camera end my photos looks incredible. This lens is better that 35mm in my opinion, i see more use with new 40mm.
Thanks NIkon!! -

Takes your photos to the nexr level

I own a D3000 and I was hoping to get a lens that would take my photographs to the next level until I could afford a better model and this lens has done just that for me! The images are so crisp and the colors really pop with this lens, and the images are flawless even when raw and unedited. I would recommend this lens to anyone!
