Wonderful little lens .
Posted by Skip12 on April 16, 2015
I brought this lens and I find it a great little lens for the price. I use it with extension tubes and I get great results . I would recommend this lens for those on a small budget .

Superb Versatile Lens
Posted by Anonymous on April 16, 2015
This amazingly inexpensive diminutive lens is capable of bitingly sharp and gorgeously rendered images that you might expect from a lens costing 4x as much as this one and don´t always get. At every aperture, on my D7100, from f2.8 through f16 (and it is difficult to find much difference in sharpness across the frame), this lens can do the job. Just pick the aperture that suits the situation. The shots included are jpegs with minor cropping and little else in the way of post processing. At 1:1 lighting the subject can be a challenge because of the closeness required and for moving insects, this is probably not the best lens, but for an all-around prime that is capable of ultra-close, tack sharp photography, this little beauty is hard to beat. I have had way too many Nikon and third party lenses, but I have wrongly dismissed this lens for years. If you are looking for your first non-kit lens I would strongly recommend this one, even over the excellent 35mm f1.8G.

Awesome macro lens!!
Posted by Fotomania on March 28, 2015
I considered some of the more expensive zoom micro lenses offered by Nikon, but decided to take a chance on this less expensive 40mm prime lens. So glad I took the chance. I am using it on the D7000 body and it works perfectly. Auto-focus is great but I prefer to use the manual focus for extreme close-ups. The clarity of the pictures is terrific and exactly what I was hoping for.

Great DX Macro
Posted by jimmyd on March 6, 2015
The 40mm 2.8 macro goes wonderful with the D5100 with the drop down monitor. This makes it very easy to put this camera on or near ground level for great angles not normally seen.
This lens is lightweight with a high quality lens that cannot be beat for this price. It is just that simple. -

i am very much a beginner, but I bought everything Nikon brand. No regrets with this lens. I´ve taken many pictures of bugs with this lens, and I´m usually surprised at what a wonderful job it does.

High Value Micro Lens
Posted by Scripps23 on November 2, 2014
This 40mm micro lens performs as well as other micro lenses three times the cost. The photo of the flower below was taken with a Nikon D7000 camera body at the following camera settings: a shutter speed of 1/250 of a second, an aperture of f/8, an ISO of 900, Auto White Balance, and Matrix Metering.

Great Detail at Close Range
Posted by DustyLensCap on July 23, 2014
I recently purchased this Lens for the purpose of capturing small objects at close range.
Right out of the box the first few images that I took were astounding. Although it doesn´t have
zoom feature, it will however focus automatically and I knew this when I purchased it. Some of
the sample pictures inspired me to acquire this lens in which I have no regrets. At close range
it is very important to utilize a tripod and remote shutter release to avoid or reduce camera shake
causing blurry captures. Here is are a few photos using a Nikon D-7100. -

Micro just for the heck of it
Posted by NevadaJayHawk on June 8, 2014
OK! I didn´t go into the store with the idea of coming out with this lens. Micro photography is way outside of what I normally focus on. This lens is just for the heck of it and to have fun. I have messed around with it several times and although I am not into micro photography I can tell you it has caused me to see things differently (to some degree). A good switch up every now and again is good for the eye. If you are stuck in landscape mode this might be the right tool to bring the fun back to your photography. It isn´t the cleanest lens but it does the job. Go ahead and get out of your rhythm and try something different.

Excellent

I do a lot of macro work and I wouldn´t be able to shoot what I love without this lens.
