My D610 replacement
Posted by TonyM on March 20, 2019
Love the Z6. A great update to my D610. This will be my travel go-to-camera to carry around with me. I used it with my F mount 80-200 F2.8 lens w/2x convertor and it worked great. Next choice will be a Z7 or D850 to replace my D4.

Light,quiet, low light champ.
Posted by Julesjlv on March 20, 2019
Very happy with my Z6. I used it last week at an event where flash was not permitted. The lighting was not great, it was a small intimate venue with several readers and a 2 person musical performance. I set my Z6 for ISO 6400 and silent mode. The results were great and I got no dirty looks from the audience or performers since the camera made no noice at all. I have always been happy with the high ISO performance of my D810 but the Z6 is even better. Also very pleased with the FTZ adapter which works great with all my AFS and manual focus Nikkors but patiently awaiting the 24-70 2.8 native Z lens.

Z6: A much needed SERIOUS foray into shooting video by Nikon
Posted by DeMarcus on March 20, 2019
The Z6...Yes, it´s mirrorless, light, offers terrific image quality, and has an ergonomic design us Nikon users have come to expect. But for hardcore Nikon shooters who own a bunch of Nikkor glass that want to become hybrid shooters FINALLY have a Nikon camera that shoots high quality video with REALLY GOOD auto focus for a change! No more hunt and seek when the camera tries to pull focus!!!
Also, I now have access to 10-bit 4:2:2 ProRes in LOG ((via external recorder) and later; RAW HDMI output...on a FULL FRAME camera...for $2000 ($2,700 when adding an external monitor/recorder). That´s insane!
My only gripe is that when shooting 10-bit Log, the base ISO jumps to 800 ISO. I wish Nikon would offer a firmware update that allows users to user lower ISO´s, especially in bright daylight without having to use an ND filter. Plus, Lower base ISO means cleaner footage.
Speaking of firmware updates, I find it odd and frustrating that since the introduction of the Z6, Nikon has only offered ONE firmware update, while it´s big brother Z7 has already gotten THREE...not to mention not getting the Eye Autofocus and the RAW output. I´m eager to see firmware updates that address banding in certain high dynamic scenarios, moire, and color noise in shadow detail in landscapes clouds at sunset even while shooting 14-bit RAW uncompressed.
Look, no camera is perfect, but overall, I have been very pleased; especially with the quality of the video this baby can crank out.
Just feed us more firmware updates...and don´t be so hush-hush about them. Teasing us with Photokina-esque sneak peaks and having to wait an eternity for them...IF they ever come.
Sincerely,
Nikon-Stan -

Classy yet Classic
Posted by Daniel on March 1, 2019
Like a finely engineered sports car, this camera just feels right. I´m a very proud owner of the Z 6 and I look forward to future firmware developments and upcoming lenses. It does everything it claims to and very well at that. If it doesn´t do everything you wish it would, I´m certain Nikon has another model that will. Life is about some compromises. We can´t have absolutely everything at once. If that were the case, we´d never be happy because there´d be nothing to chase. For me personally, this beauty meets my requirements and then some. I´m just so happy to own it. No regrets,

This camera is all Nikon!
Posted by drjim on January 13, 2019
I love this new camera. I didn´t need the additional megapixels, so the Z6 provided a more feature rich version of my D810 at a price less than the D850. What a bargain! I have been having fun with all the new bells and whistles, and it takes incredible pictures. I have used the 24-70 native lens quite a bit, but, using the adapter, all of my F-mount lenses are available to me as well. I am SO HAPPY with my Christmas present. it is as if Nikon had asked me exactly what I wanted from Santa. I´m still holding on to my D810, but I will be carrying my new camera on our next trip this Summer! It would be nice to have some native lenses of the quality I´ve come to expect from Nikkor, but this camera is ready to go.

My first mirrorless camera!
Posted by 4BeamMeUp on January 10, 2019
I´ve been a Nikon user for 40 years. I shoot a lot of corporate jobs and wanted to have a camera that can shoot in silent mode. When I shoot meetings I´´m on my feet for long days the weight is a lot nicer to carry around. I wish that the focus assist would work when shooting with my speedlights in dark rooms. Hopefully this will be an update on the camera. Also two card slots would be nice also.

Room for improvement
Posted by Smeth on January 6, 2019
Purchased my Z6 on November 19th and have been using it as my primary camera since. I am a wedding photographer that took a chance with this and it´s working out very well. Below I will list some pros and cons as I have seen so far. Take it with a grain of salt.
Pros-
- SUPER lightweight. On wedding days this camera is a blessing even with the FTZ adapter and a 24-70mm lens.
- Incredible value for the technology at your fingertips.
- Fantastic photos in low light. This camera has made reception photos more sharp. I can without hesitation shoot at 4000 ISO and end up with great photos.
- Every photo is tack sharp.
Cons-
- small body for those with bigger hands.
- EVF flickers too much when continuous shooting. The EVF goes black screen on single shot or it buffers too slowly when continuous shooting. *My suggestion for a fix, below.
- The dreaded one card slot. As a wedding photographer I would feel much more comfortable with a backup card slot. I do trust the XQD card enough to shoot this camera as a primary.
- Syncing wirelessly to your phone- the photos have to be in JPG format to sync to your phone with the snapbridge app. Not a fan. However, when I purposely shoot in JPG it works great.
- NO Sensor curtain when changing lenses. I fear changing lenses often because the sensor is just out in the open. Would love to see a spring loaded curtain come down when changing lenses. Spent $1400 recently on a new sensor for my D4 so I am a bit paranoid.
All in all, this camera is incredible. I understand it is the first offering of mirrorless and they will fix all the problems we have brought forth in the next version, but some of the issues I have noticed could have been addressed. Above, I wrote that I have an idea for the EVF black screen. If nikon could make a firmware update where the EVF has a 1 or 2 pixel green border that shows up shooting continuously that would be beneficial because then I could follow my subjects (walking down the aisle or introductions to the reception) better.
Overall, I would absolutely recommend this camera. It´s surprisingly a workhorse. Great first edition. -

Delighted!
Posted by magisterludi on January 5, 2019
Best camera I´ve ever held, and my Nikons go back to an original F. Fits my hand as if custom made, all controls and buttons exactly where I want them. Quick, responsive. Bright, well-resolved VF and LCD. Spot-on focusing (I use the FTX adapter). And, of course, outstanding IQ.
I´ve read many critiques, esp. those that detail the less than perfect tracking focus, the use of a single card slot, the high-gain banding. In my own actual work, none of these are an issue. My own nitpicking: instantaneous image review is not possible as it is on DSLRs, silly ´´i´´ button, IBIS not quite as good as on my Oly cameras. None of this is critical. -

A very nice carry around camera.
Posted by DJsmith on January 2, 2019
The Z 6 has surpassed my expectations. I was a bit worried about it being 24mg sensor, however, the image quality is so good that I can crop into the image and still have a great image. So far, the dynamic range has not disappointed. I hope that Nikon will do updates to the z 6 to add more/refine AF modes would be great if I could use the z 6 for wildlife and birds. Overall, great product.
