Good but not great
Posted by Charley on July 24, 2019
Somewhat lighter compared to D850. With Z lens it takes incredible still photos in terms of sharpness, colors and contrast. Very, very good in low light, better than D850. Vibration control is unbelievable. Not so good for action shots. Eye focus works well but need to be close to subject. Wish controls were more similar to other Nikon Pro grade camera. Also would be nice to have an adapter that would enable me to use my Nikor D lens with autofocus

Getting better and better
Posted by Carlosphotos on July 24, 2019
I have been enjoying my Z6 for a couple of months now and I absolutely love it! I´m a professional photographer and I also produce videos. After the latest update to the software, now I can track faces and eyes and it is right on accurate! Very happy with the quality, reliability and overall performance.

Works Great
Posted by JKPPNY on July 24, 2019
I´ve had Z6 since it came out as a pre-order. Comparing, sadly to mirror-less competition, there were few things missing. The upgrade DEFINITELY improved performance.
The primary aspect of my business is working with children. Although AF on mirrorless isn´t as effective for fast shooting (like kids :) ) it is good enough. The best part, I can safeR shoot at 1.4 and chances of mis-focusing are less. This alone, allows me to capture unique enough images that I wouldn´t be able to capture on dslr or before the update AS EASY.
It really should be 4x, not 5x. But I went with 5 b/c I truly believe in its potential . -

Firmware Update for Z 6 makes a fine camera better!
Posted by fotabug on July 24, 2019
I have been using the Z 6 for eight months now and it has become a vital part of my most used equipment. It is quite versatile. One less mentioned feature of mirrorless cameras is the ability to actually preview the result on the monitor. Add to that the highlight and histogram displays and one can achieve better exposure than ever before. Firmware update #2 has added super features, especially Eye Detection, which matches up very well with the best out there. And the design of the Z 6/7 makes it easy to pick up and use for those of us who have used DSLR´s for years. I got my first Nikon DSLR, the D1x, in 2001. I still use a D850 and D500 today. The Z 6 fits right in and it is easy to switch back and forth without any problem. They work so similarly. All in all, I am extremely pleased with the Z 6 and would recommen others seriously consider it. It measures up well against any competing model of any brand. Also, Lens Rental calls the Z7, using the same body, as ´´the best built mirrorless full-frame camera we´ve taken apart.´´

A Great Everyday Camera
Posted by Nechesh on July 7, 2019
Over all i must say i am pretty happy with the Z6. This is not to say i have not found some drawbacks.
I have started out with just one prime lens, the 35mm 1.8. I´m not going to quip too much on this, but i am still not sure why Nikon felt the need to start out so conservatively with aperture. I would have liked this to be a 1.4 lens. Given all that was stated about how the new mount allows for faster aperture it just seems odd. And don´t bring up the very expensive 58mm 0.95. I have no use for such extremes at such prices. I will also say that while the lens seems fairly solid i am not a big fan of the plastic focus ring. I think a rubberized addition here would be preferable. It did take a small whack at one point and the ring developed a little crack. A rubberized ring would not have suffered so and would also add an additional layer of protection for the lens itself.
While others may have faster focussing products (not naming names) i find the focus adequate enough in low light, especially with the recent firmware update. One thing that does irk me regarding focus is the focus areas points. I do back button focussing so my camera is always on ´´continuous´´ focus. I find that in that mode i cannot get the smallest focus area box to appear. They only go to the smallest point in single point focus. I have not found too much problem with this regarding missed focus, but would prefer to have a smaller point area to choose my focus with. I am hopeful that this might be a future firmware update.
The quality of the images are really nice and i find the 35mm lens to be tack sharp and also enjoy that it focusses to a fairly close distance. I have found that when i am using Nikon View NX2 (version 2.10.3) that i get a box that tells me RAW cannot read the ´´distortion control lens profile´´ of this lens, though when i click OK i am able to both view and edit the images anyway. Not sure what that is about or if it is time to leave NX2 behind for something newer. I did not see a more recent firmware update yet that might fix this. See screen shot below.
On the card slot issue, this does not concern me much, though Nikon might want to consider a two-card slot for their next model just to shut folks up. I am probably jinxing myself here, but i have been shooting digital professionally for 15 years and have never used a secondary back-up card. Maybe i´m just lucky, or maybe it is because i don´t use second-rate memory cards, but i have never had one fail on me. I have another 20 years of shooting experience as a film photographer before digital. Those cameras never had a back-up roll of film, now did they? I don´t quite get why people find this so vexing, at least to the point that makes it a make or break issue. But a second slot would certainly make them happy i suppose so you should probably consider it.
So for the most part i am very pleased, but certainly see room for improvement. This has become my everyday/everywhere camera since my D5 is a beast to carry around casually. I would love to see more lens options more quickly for this camera. I do have the adapter so i can use my other Nikon glass on the Z6, but frankly i found the 70-200mm a bit awkward and out of balance on there so i may have to look into the one designed for the camera if i am going to want those focal length options regularly. But the adapter did seem to operate well otherwise. -

Great camera
Posted by LifeOutdoors on June 23, 2019
I used a DX format camera since I started Photography with plans to upgrade to a full frame at a later point. I am glad I chose to upgrade to full frame when Nikon made the Z6 mirrorless available. It works well with my Nikkor 105mm Macro lens and also automatically recognizes my favorite DX lenses as well. I find the colors and quality of the photos taken with the Z6 amazing and I happy with how well it handles high ISO settings which comes in handy for my Macro work. I am looking forward to making more wonderful photos with my new Z6

Excellet for first round of Z cameras
Posted by ridgewalker88 on June 18, 2019
As a wildlife and BIF photographer its not perfect but close. Colors are really nice finally out of a Nikon. Autofocus system needs work for BIF but is sufficient for mammals or sitting birds. AFC needs a smaller focus point that would make it easier for getting the animals eye or smaller birds against busy backgrounds. Also that lag needs to go away for BIF. Its a great backpacking camera with its small size and weight. All in all Im happy with it but I will not be trading in my D500 or D810 until they fix the above issues.

Awesome camera
Posted by Orenco on June 18, 2019
I´ve owned quite a few Nikon cameras. The Z 6, while not yet an action camera, does everything else well. Matched with the 24-70 and either of the two primes, it´s a great travel kit. It´s a pleasure to handle and fun to shoot. It does need the battery grip if you shoot a lot of video. However, the quality of the photos are dazzling. I took some shots to the Pro Photo lab in Portland, Oregon yesterday to have some prints made and the techs were amazed at the detail.

Great design and implementation.
Posted by bigskyrad on June 16, 2019
The Z 6 is easy to handle and has great controls. Love the menu system. Easy to geotag photos from SnapBridge on my iPhone. Easy to wirelessly download full high resolution jpg photos to my iPad while traveling. Great photos. One of the best products I have ever owned.
