    The Sweet Spot

Posted by Timothy George on January 29, 2026

I've used every model in the current lineup except for the Zfc, ZR, and Z9, and the Z5II is the sweet spot for most of what most people do in most of the shooting. The EXPEED7 processor brings the menu and capabilities, if not quite all the speed, of the top pro-level cameras. The sensor produces image files that are as deeply rich and malleable as any. The build and weatherproofing are far beyond what "entry-level" used to mean. A superb, incredibly capable bargain.

My first Full frame mirrorless camera

Posted by Doug Coleman on January 28, 2026

This being my first Full frame mirrorless camera I don’t have a lot to compare it to, but what I will say is that this camera has more than exceeded all of my expectations. The IBIS alone made it worth it for me, but everything else is amazing as well. Picture quality, ergonomics, customization…. This camera is a beast, and I’m confident it will be my primary shooter for many years to come.

    Great camera for the money.

Posted by Robert Trant on January 28, 2026

I began with a 35mm SLR back in the mid 70s, a D40X in the 2000's followed by a D7100. I was tempted to stay DX due to the light weight of the Z 50 2 and the match with my glass, but reviews of the Z5II were so good I sprang for full frame, a 24-200 kit, a 40 mm and FTZ. Mostly used for vacation photos so far (ie. not much in street photos for the 40 mm), but I am wowed by the level of detail with the kit Zoom. I am still trying to figure out the autofocus system, and it took me a while to realize that the default settings did not lock in exposure setting with the AF on button. I also agree with some reviewers that the Snapbridge wireless download process is hard to use and painfully slow, resulting in reverting to the time honored direct downloading from the SD card process. Low light capability is outstanding, and while I prefer having my eye looking through a viewfinder, the articulating screen is excellent. In Hong Kong a guy with dual Z9's showed me the automatic sensor cover that keeps it clean when changing lenses. Since I have already had to clean spots on my sensor I do envy that one aspect, but otherwise like the feature set. No regrets on the purchase.

Excellent Full Frame Entry Level Camera

Posted by JOHN CELENTANO on January 28, 2026

Excellent camera. I use it as a back-up/second camera body to my Z6iii. I do a lot of video work and sometimes need a second camera to use at the same time and the Z5ii is great at that. Excellent 4k resolution and a variety of video formats including n-log and n-raw. Great stabilization as well. Very good autofocus for both video and photographs. As an entry level hybrid video/photo camera or as a back-up, it is hard to beat at its price, especially when it is on sale.

    New Z5ii

Posted by Steve Scarborough on January 25, 2026

Moved from Z5 and glad I did. So many upgraded features. It is a nice light weight even with 24-120 mounted. Great resolution in photos. One drawback is that it blocks 3d party battery use. Is it really such a huge financial drain to Nikon? May be fixed in an update. Still playing with it but enjoying it. The fully articulating screen makes a big difference. Overall I would say buy it as your way into hi tech full frame.

    No Regrets!

Posted by Yamikaze Yamikaze on January 21, 2026

I have had the camera a couple of weeks now and my first impression is good. Coming from a D500, it is taking some getting used to the controls. I have no regrets, and buying something higher end, Z6, 7, or even 8 would have just been over kill for me and landscape & night scape photography I do.

Light and does a great job

Light and feels good in my hands. Can wait to take it out to shoot the stars. Just got it a couple days ago and did a trial run. Images look great.

    I love it!

Posted by Carol Wilson on January 18, 2026

I’m amazed at all the features this camera offers. I previously had a D850 and a D500. This camera gives me all the things I love in a camera at far less weight. If I hadn’t found the Z cameras and the Z5ii in particular, my future photography would have been severely limited. So far the test shots I have taken have been very sharp!

    Traded up to the Z5ii

Posted by Richard Edwards on January 18, 2026

I have a Z8 and I did own a Z6ii. After seeing that the Z6ii did not match the Z8 in focusing speed and accuracy and seeing in reviews that the Z5ii was much better in that department, I decided to trade in my Z6ii for a Z5ii. It's true. Snappy and accurate focusing as well as the smaller size make my new Z5ii perfect for the street photography I love. And the picture quality is excellent as well.
