    Review

Posted by William Latura on September 19, 2025

Gigantic upgrade from my D5600. I'm hard pressed to think of anything I want in a mirrorless camera that this doesn't have. Combined with the 24-200mm lens, I have a fantastic jack of all trades setup. Just need a little time of to get used to all the options and settings that are available.

    Best camera I have had

Posted by Jesus A. on September 15, 2025

Incredibly sharp, impressed with its low light performance. Comfortable to hold, its ergonomics are great and love for all the customizable buttons. Simply an amazing camera. I started with a Canon APS-C mirrorless camera and the jump in quality of this Z5 to that camera is just unbelievable.

    Fantastic Camera (Awful Software!)

Posted by Joel h. on August 28, 2025

Have not tried video yet, so this review is for photo only. Camera is great, I got it with 40mm/2 lens plus FTZ adaptor since I have many Fx lenses accumulated over several decades of Nikon film and digital SLR use. Ergonomics are very nice, the camera is light weight (compare to D3 and D700!), and takes beautiful photos. It’s everything I would expect from Nikon in terms of design and functionality. My ONLY complaint relates to the wireless transfer software apps Snapbridge, Studio and Wireless. Transfer. They are really awful, IMO. Poorly designed, difficult to use, unstable in operation, and tech support representatives seem as baffled about their operation as I am. Best results in my hands for getting images off the camera is to take them from the SD card into computer by wired sd card reader. The wireless options are very frustrating to use (for me, anyway).

    I Couldn’t Be Happier

Posted by Got the Photo Bug on August 28, 2025

Coming from a D5200, the Z5ii is an enormous jump in image quality (especially in lower light) and overall user experience. The extensive customization options for the buttons and “i" menu let me set everything up the way I want, so I can access what I need quickly and easily. Auto focus is quick, with lots of options and approaches. The camera feels great in hand, I just love using it. (And to the 3-star reviewer who complained that they missed the Z8’s silent operation, check the manual… the Z5ii can do silent electronic shutter, too.)

    Z5II Awesome!

Posted by Janice F. on August 27, 2025

This is by far the best Nikon camera I've owned! The picture are sharp right out of the camera. I have it paired with a 24-120 F4 lens and it fits all of my needs. I recently returned from Ireland and I'm very pleased with all of my shots.

    Upgraded from the OG Z6

Posted by CLAYBORNE C. on August 27, 2025

This is an extremely capable hybrid camera. If you need reliable video autofocus and you have modern Nikkor Z lenses, you are in for a very good time. For photos, it has 3D tracking, a huge upgrade from my original Z6. The only trade off I've noticed, the Z6 is built like a tank. The Z5_2 is definitely a "lighter build", however I would NOT call it cheap, everything feels like Nikon quality. I tested the Z50_2 and it was definitely a cheaper build and components compared to the Z5_2. For example, the viewfinder on the Z5_2 is very high quality compared to the Z50_2. Can anyone beat the performance and value of this offering? You nailed it Nikon, amazing job! Can't wait for the first major firmware update.

    Impressed!

Posted by Carl D. on August 27, 2025

Impressed. Excellent image quality and performance, great AF and tracking, superb low light ability and coloration. I'm do mostly do stills, so this Z5II was perfect.Have the Z7 but needed better AF and tracking like the Z8 with its similar Z7 resolution. However, the Z8 is larger and heavier than the Z7, and prefer the size and weight format of the Z7.When Nikon introduced this Z5II with the Expeed 7 processor, it gave me the AF and tracking I needed, at about $2K less than Z8, so bought it. Even though the Z5II has a 24.5 Mp sensor, found it had much better image quality and performance than expected along with great low light capability. Very pleased, and has become my daily go to camera. If Nikon would put a high resolution partially stacked BSI sensor into this Z5II, they would have the Z7III that I, and many others, have been waiting for. But to my surprise, this Z5II is filling the temporary void perfectly! Great job Nikon!

    Excellent Prosumer Upgrade

Posted by Jeffrey R. on August 27, 2025

This is exactly the camera I've been waiting on for a number of years. It takes the phenomenal performance of the Nikon Z9, attaches it to an oldie-but-goodie 24MP image sensor, and makes it available at a compelling price point. I like that Nikon basically didn't hold anything back with this camera body. Yes, there are cameras with faster sensors like the Z6iii, and more high-end features, like the Z8 and Z9. But for a long-time enthusiast like myself, with a number of older lenses and flashes, this gets me a massive body upgrade, that competes well with flagship cameras from yesteryear, at a price that doesn't break the bank.I primarily use this camera body to photograph my family and personal occasions. I've taken some of the best shots of my life within weeks of getting this camera. The autofocus is spectacular, and the colors and low-light performance are sensational. I've used it to document my son's nursery graduation, a friend's son's Bris, and my 10 year wedding anniversary. Each time, I left thrilled with some breathtaking photos that I nailed, and a few shots that remind me how much more I have to grow in terms of composition and technique. When I use this camera, I know that the only thing holding me back from getting the shots that I want, is me.I can heartily recommend this camera body to anyone who feels ready to take a big step forward in what their camera body can do for them, but doesn't want to break the bank, either.

    Amazing camera!

Posted by Daryl G. on August 27, 2025

I used to have a d90 after 15yrs it retired. It was time to get a new one i was planning to get the z50ii but it was out of stock so went with the z5ii and im glad i did ! the low light performance with 40 f2 was outstanding! The shots were really amazing! I have shaky hands and i can still shoot handheld at night thanks to the IBIS.
