Z50II

Amazing camera coupled with my Nikkor AF VR 80-400mm 4.5-5.6 D lens. Having subject tracking in manual mode is a game changer. Can’t imagine this beast with a great telephoto with autofocus. Light year leap from the original Z50!!!

I’ve only had the Z50ii for a few weeks but already know it was the right upgrade for me. (I previously used a Nikon D5600.) while I’m still learning all of the features I can see how it has helped me capture crisper, better, shots when out birding. I’m shooting mostly on M and appreciate the finger tip availability to quickly adjust shutter speed and aperture. Budget-wise, this hit the sweet spot, too. It was an appropriate decision for me to stay with crop sensor instead of full-frame and doing so meant I could buy an adaptor for under $300 that allows me to use my existing lenses. For my first foray into mirrorless, this has been great.

I would give it a 5 star, but the battery seems to not last long.

Switch from a D5500 to Z50II and I've been loving it, it is worth every penny if you want to start doing some nature photography as well.

First and foremost, the 50 II is an excellent camera, and I went from a D500 and 100-400 lens to this. Images are crisp and sharp, and the camera is nice and small and light compared to the D500. I'm still relearning where the shutter button is, because the D500 controls are more spread out. My only concerns are battery life (Nikon gives you two of the new a-series batteries) and the so far lack of a good camera bag. I've tried ThinkTank slings and Ruggedd holsters, and nothing quite fits the camera with the 26-400 tele lens and strap on it and holds that and the extra two batteries without being a traditional oversized "camera bag". Looking forward to getting this camera/lens up to Alaska next summer !

This is my second mirrorless camera, and it is so much better than the Sony I had. It is lightweight, easy to use, and has A+ picture quality. The only thing I can complain about is the expensive extra batteries.

I'm a near-5 year owner/user of a Z50, owning numerous Z FF and APSC lenses, which serves as the basis for some of my observations. It's image output is identical to the Z50; very good dynamic range for an APSC sensor, and quite good fine detail, thanks to lack of an anti-aliasing filter. IMHO it also performs better at higher ISOs than its competition. I shoot almost entirely raw, in order to edit later. But with both raw and jpeg, Nikon's color science is very appealing. I'll be interested in exploring making color presets given the new settings possible. Second, their cameras' ability to meter to get a good/ideal exposure is also excellent and noteworthy. These really do put them ahead of some other major brands in my view. This being my first Nikon with the brand's latest Z9+ faster processor's capabilities, the autofocus for subject detection and tracking eyes is stunningly good. I upgraded to the 'ii' model mostly for this, so I could use it for a bit of bird photography, and with that, it is awesome. I don't see a huge change/improvement with the brighter EVF. Buttons are slightly more pronounced. I DO feel the extra weight, which I'd rather not had to take on. If they'd bumped up the megapixels slightly and increased the FPS (currently, higher settings come with limitations) I'd give it a 5 star. Overall, I'm very happy with it.

I love this camera as it is such an upgrade for me. I bought the two lens kit for about 1300 USD but it was worth every penny. I upgraded from a Canon PowerShot SX740 HS so for me this is a massive upgrade. I was on a relatively tight budget as I am a young adult and this seems to be the best value option. All the perks of the newest chip plus a competitive price make this all worth it for me. My only gripe with the camera is the older sensor as it only is 20.9 megapixels which is a lot but the PowerShot from 2018 had 20 megapixels and was a fraction of the price. Another minor issue is the lack of IBIS but this is only really matters for non VR lenses. Overall a great buy for anyone who wants to start their journey into interchangeable lens mirrorless cameras.

Despite being one of the cheapest entry points into the Z system Nikon certainly hasn't short changed us on features. The flexibility of all the AF options inherited from the more expensive models is simply brilliant. The only thing missing are more DX lenses, I'd love to see compact versions of 11mm, 16mm f/2.8 primes. Highly recommended rating from me.
