An excellent addition to my equipment.

This 1.4 teleconverter is excellent! I was very pleased with the results. I primarily use it on my 180-600. It has been a great addition to my equipment. The quality of the shot does not seem to be affected.

    Outstanding performance even at 840mm

Posted by Ihor Holianyk Holianyk on June 11, 2026

I tested the Z Teleconverter TC-1.4x paired with my Nikon Z7 II and the NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR lens, and the results exceeded my expectations. Here are the key takeaways from my experience:- Autofocus Speed: Remarkably fast and accurate, even when shooting during the evening in low-light conditions. It doesn't hunt for focus.- Sharpness: Absolutely stellar. The image remains razor-sharp even at the maximum focal length of 840mm. I noticed no visible drop in optical quality.- Handling: Lightweight and seamless integration with the Z system.Highly recommended for wildlife and sports photographers who need that extra reach without compromising on quality!

Great addition to a wildlife photographer’s bag

Posted by Lorraine H. Holcombe on May 23, 2026

I’m very happy with the 1.4 teleconverter. It pairs very well with my 180-600 mm zoom for wildlife photography. I lose some light but the Nikon Z6iii performs so well in low light that it hardly makes a difference. I am also losing some autofocus speed so my birds in flight photos have suffered a little but all in all it’s a great addition to my camera bag.

Very Happy! Coupled with the 70-180 2.8 works well for wild life and taking photos of my Dog.

Nikkor Z 100-400mm lens coupled with the 1.4 TC is proving ideal for amateur Z5II wildlife snaps; ideal combination of portability and versatility.

    Pleasantly Surprised! Pleased with Results

Posted by Jim Petcoff on March 12, 2026

I’m pleasantly shocked at how sharp this 1.4 TC adapted to my 600 PF is. In my experience I have not noticed any loss of clarity, at least not that I’m able to obviously discern. Yes there is a full stop loss of light. Because of that I generally only use this TC on bright days. 5 stars!

    Glad I got it!

Generally, I have not been happy with teleconverters. I have returned them because they have been less sharp than cropping an unconverted image. This converter, used with my my 600 pf, gives me really sharp images at 840mm. I’ve been leaving the tc on the camera just to get used to it, and I’m not experiencing any significant difference in performance.

    Perfect addition for my collection

The perfect compliment with my new 400mm f4.5 lens. I have almost the range of a 600mm without the size and weight.

    A tool, not a toy

Posted by Christopher Christopher on October 14, 2025

After extensive research and reading other reviews, I purchased this for use with the 180-600mm. I expected the one stop loss of light as the cost of getting the extra reach. My main use is birds in flight and I was almost always at 600mm so the effective 840mm was exactly what I needed. Bear in mind, with a Z8, you can achieve even more reach shooting in DX mode to the effective 1260mm with this converter!I have seen no loss of sharpness or focus capability using this. The only problem is getting used to finding the bird in the sky and knowing the angle of view is so small that you have to be accurate in your initial acquisition to keep the lens on target.I was hoping this converter would also work on my stellar Z 24-120 F4, but the protrusion on the back of the converter prevents mounting it on this lens. I have enjoyed using this on my 180-600 so much that in the two months I have been using it, it has not left the lens. You use a higher ISO to compensate for the loss of the stop of light, but modern software makes this a trivial matter to correct in post. I have shot birds in morning light at 12,800 ISO with this setup and after running noise and sharpness routines in On1 photo raw, I have very usable images. As a veteran photographer with over 55 years experience and over 3 million images to my credit, shooting at these speeds is a miracle compared to my F2 and Tr-X back in the day. This converter is expensive, yet it is a tool, not a toy, to achieve results for your intended purpose. It is solidly built, and does what it is designed to do. I do wish that Nikon provided a solid carrying case for this rather than the cheap fabric sock that is supplied. For the price of this item, it should come in a presentation case.
