Z TELECONVERTER TC-1.4x

Excellent addition to my z lenses. Works as described.

I was hesitant to get a teleconverter for my 800mm lens as I am picky about image degradation. After a small learning curve I was able to better understand the limits of a TC on an already long focal length of 800mm. At 1,120mm f/9 wide open, I choose not to use it for birds in flight as it penalizes you both in needing a faster shutter speed (due to the longer focal length), and it also costs you 1 stop. However, there is so much photography to be had on still subjects, where shutter speed can be reduced to reclaim the loss in light, and that is where this TC really shines. I loved it so much that I also decided to get the Z 2.0 TC. Unfortunately, I had not yet purchased the 2x as of the time of these photos or I would have taken these shots with the 2x also. Photo #1 - 800mm | Photo #2 - 800mm + 1.4 TC at 1,120mm. Both images cropped to 5110 x 6813.

I have a 2.0 Teleconverter, but sometimes it doesn’t work as well due to the light and losing 2 f/stops. The 1.4 works well and does a very good job of extending my 180-600 range for those wildlife photos without losing much light. I haven’t noticed any vignetting either. It also works with my 70-180 so sometimes I don’t have to switch lenses and potentially miss a photo.

I don’t use my 400mm f/4.5 Z that often, but it’s very useful in certain situations and nicely hand-holdable. I do wish at times for more reach, but feel the 800mm is too much and the 600mm too expensive for my limited use case. I didn’t even think about a TC until I was researching 600mm options. I’m glad I made this purchase. It’s close enough to 600mm for me and cropping, if needed with the Z9, minimizes any image quality penalty. I think its results are excellent and only the most anal pixel-peepers would notice any image quality degradation. I certainly can’t. It’s not inexpensive, but it’s FAR cheaper than a 600mm Z lens. I recommend it unequivocally.

This 1.4 teleconverter is excellent! I was very pleased with the results. I primarily use it on my 180-600. It has been a great addition to my equipment. The quality of the shot does not seem to be affected.

I’m very happy with the 1.4 teleconverter. It pairs very well with my 180-600 mm zoom for wildlife photography. I lose some light but the Nikon Z6iii performs so well in low light that it hardly makes a difference. I am also losing some autofocus speed so my birds in flight photos have suffered a little but all in all it’s a great addition to my camera bag.

Very Happy! Coupled with the 70-180 2.8 works well for wild life and taking photos of my Dog.

Nikkor Z 100-400mm lens coupled with the 1.4 TC is proving ideal for amateur Z5II wildlife snaps; ideal combination of portability and versatility.
