5Shoot smaller in rawPosted by rblaz on March 13, 2025 Love the Z8. Auto focus and tracking is super…hope the next software upgrade offers the ability to shoot smaller in raw… don’t need 45mp when bursting. As others have noted, a smaller grip would be awesome.

5A major improvement over previous camerasPosted by Gary Z. on March 10, 2025 I got my first Nikon, an F, in 1962. Since then, I've owned 14 other Nikon SLRs, Fs, Ns and Ds. The cameras have always been of the highest quality and dependability. I loved seeing exactly what was included in the photo I was taking.I have reached that time in my life that I ain't no spring chicken. In the last five years, my D850 and lenses seemed to have gained weight. So I packed up my "D" cameras and lenses, traded them in, and bought a Z8, and two Nikkor zooms, the 28-400 and the14-30. I've only had the new equipment about two weeks, but two features of the "Z" equipment have become apparent.First, the lenses are smaller, lighter and cost less than "D" lenses. I'm guessing that has to do with the fact that image stabilization is done in the Z8 camera instead of the lens.Second, while the SLRs and DSLRs show exactly what physical features are included in the photo, the Z camera also previews the exposure. In other words, one can visually adjust the exposure while composing the shot. To me, that is a giant improvement over previous cameras.I'm delighted with my Z8 equipment.

5I love Z8Posted by Nelsa S. on March 8, 2025 I love my Z8, before I had the D750 and I was happy with that body, but since I went to Z everything is much better, with its autofocus and so on, and its spectacular electronic viewfinder there is no brand like this one.

5Autofocus and subject detection sold me!Posted by Ross B. on March 6, 2025 I was very happy with my D780 until I saw what the Z9 autofocus and subject detection were able to do. My primary interest is birds and wildlife, and I am amazed at the 3D and bird / subject detection capabilities of the Z8. I was going to buy the Z9 but felt the size and cost just didn’t justify it. Plus, I have many EL15C batteries for the Z8 already. I am a little disappointed with the battery life, however changing batteries is a trivial matter for me. I’m looking forward to acquiring Z lenses. I am also happy with the FTZ adapter, and coupled with my f-mount lenses, am getting great results. My first acquisition will be the 180-600 zoom to replace my 200-500. It is a bit on the heavy side. I look forward to exploring all the capabilities of this camera!
