z7II

much better that the first version, AF locks on and holds focus well, still has some blackout during CAF but much less that the first version. I would like to see the AF have 3d like tracking throughout the entire AF area modes. Faster frame rates in the next generation z (8/9) or version 3. Image quality better than my D850. Future wish list: Button lights, faster frame rate, better dynamic range and low light capability while maintaining dynamic range. 1.2 crop like the D850, expand animal eye recognition and focus,

Overall Very Good Camera
Posted by Garrett Shaw on December 22, 2020
After selling my D850 and all of the F-Mount lens I have gone all-in on the Nikon Z platform. So far, I have been working with the camera for a week now and really like it so far. Compared to the D850 & battery grip, this is so much smaller and manageable. I have reduced the size of my backpack by 1/3. The photo capabilities have been an nice upgrade. I was at a basketball game and was able to shoot at 5000 ISO with great pictures and plenty of detail to remove the grain from the photos. The video capabilities have been 100% better. 4k60 video with autofocus allows me to film a video without being behind the camera. The blackout when shooting has been an issue for me and haven't noticed it. The included power cable was a very nice surprise. I have noticed that the camera can get a little warm when shooting lots of pictures but doesn't slow down at all or become hot.Now the eye detection hasn't been that good, you have to be very close to get it to work and the pet eye detection has not worked at all. I have an Airedale, so there is some contract from fur to the eye. I'm hoping that Nikon will continue to work on the autofocusing system. Overall I'm very happy with the camera and can't wait to see the updates Nikon has instore for this camera. This is a very good current option to the D850

Meets my expectations. Very happy.
Posted by Lois Tash on December 22, 2020
Just got my Nikon Z7II last week. Haven’t used it a lot yet but looking forward to making it my go to camera. A lot heavier than my old Nikon 5100, entry level camera, but it does everything I want it to do. I can crop better, take totally silent photos for the events I shoot for and the lens is much better than my old lenses. The menu feels very familiar because of my past experience with my old camera. Very happy!

A big step forward
Posted by David Bessen on December 22, 2020
Wow, both forwards and backwards! To be fair, I am replacing a D7100 with the Z7 II and the resolution and dynamic color range is amazing. Photographing a great blue heron the other day allowed me to capture the detail of its feathers, even with a drastic crop of the photo. The various shades of blue in the photo--the bird, the water, the sky reflecting on the water--were all beautiful rendered. Ice crystals on leaves also render with great detail, using the kit lens (24-70mm f4 S). On top of this the camera's functions are comprehensive (although the 852 page reference manual is mildly intimidating--longer than War and Peace) and they are very easy to use. Controls are well placed for making changes without removing your eye from the electronic viewfinder or, if you prefer, tapping on the touchscreen monitor. Auto-focus functions are fast and accurate, with a wide range of AF modes to select. Still learning more--after 10 days with the camera--and look forward to experimenting with the video, time-lapse and focus stacking.Been delighted so far, and, "Wow"!

Great Addition to my Gear
Posted by Jerry Day on December 22, 2020
I have had a Z7 for 2 years and loved it. Used it with my D850, but I am a historic railroad writer and photographer and getting up and out of steam locomotives with the Z7 is a lot easier. I did miss the vertical grip, so having it on the Z7ii is a real welcome addition. Sure seems crisper focus and shooting, Look forward to shooting with it. Will keep my Z7 as backup until the Z8....SMILE

Beautiful piece of gear, does the Nikon name proud. I'll get the chance to work with it for first time next week &, I'll report back later. Have a wonderful Christmas!
