    Amazing camera

Posted by Philip Hayes on July 20, 2022

My Nikon Z7ii is my go to camera for capturing the moment. With it’s stunning detail, sharpness and excellent colours right out of the camera. The light weight and effortless operation make it a joy to carry. It has never let me down or failed to perform regardless of weather. It is an amazing camera that exceeds my expectations.

The Z7II was worth the wait

Posted by Tanya Lillie on July 20, 2022

I waited over six months for the Z7II and I am happy to say that it was worth the wait. I have owned Nikon's D300, D610 and what I thought would be my last camera the D850. Not to mention the number of Nikon camera's I purchased for student use in the Digital and Multimedia courses I taught through the years (now retired). After breaking my wrist in multiple places, the D850 was getting two much for me to hand hold, so I decide to purchase a the Z7II, which produces the same 45 MP images as the D850, but is enough lighter that I can hand hold it. I purchased John Greengo's web class on the ZII and it was an excellent way to make the shift to the mirrorless camera. The Z7II meets all my needs as a landscape photographer, as well as the photos I shoot of family and friends. My budget only allowed me to purchase the 24-70 Kit Lens and Ftz adapter. My only complaint is that with the Ftz adapter, the auto focus on many of my lenses is very slow to focus and in some cases doesn't work.

A superb camera that is a delight to use but has some slightly annoying flaws.

Posted by Peter Jackson on July 20, 2022

This camera is a delight to use and produces, once set up correctly, extremely high quality photographs and short videos. This Nikon was my 4th attempt at using Nikon as my photographic tool of choice, being a long time Canon shooter and deciding that both the size and cost of the Canon gear was getting excessive. I had owned an F100, D90 (film era), Z7 and now a Z7II. In the past I had ended up going back to Canon but the Z7 and Z7II hooked me and I now use the Z7II as one of my cameras made up of the Nikon Z7II, Canon R5 and Sony A7RIVa. Pros:1. Size and handling. Good smaller size and reasonable weight. I do not like large cameras.2. Excellent quality and reasonably priced lenses although limited to Nikon manufacture.3. Well organized and easy to use menus with touch screen interface (see caveat below).4. Excellent out of camera JPGs with nice color and excellent detail.5. Excellent RAW images with superb lowlight detail.6. Excellent resolution with picture sizes that are not too large for processing.7. Effective IBIS8. High quality body which feels very good in the hand.9. Gets out of the way (most of the time) and allows you just to take pictures.10. Easy to use and functional Nikon mobile app. It just works which is very rare in this market.11. Excellent documentation.Cons:1. Auto focus a little tricky to keep on the subject at times. Tends to lose focus when subject moves rapidly or temporarily turns away. Sony and Canon are better in this regard.2. Some odd quirks in setup that make it more difficult than it should be to get the camera setup as you need e.g. Auto focus is more awkward to setup than it should be.3. Rear monitor only flips out rather than being fully articulated. Vertical shooting more difficult.4. Lack of a reasonably priced f/4 tele zoom (70 to 200) that take advantage of the light weight and size of this camera. Wide angle option and excellent 24 - 120 help but no reasonably priced tele zooms in the Z S or Z range.5. Interface not licensed to 3rd party lens manufacturers that limits choice of reasonably priced lenses.6. No reasonably priced bluetooth remote control option (all the others have a reasonably priced remote control that works via BT, I could not find a Nikon option for this function and had to buy a more complex 3rd party option).Summary:A camera I love and will be keeping for a long time. Now I would like the Z9 in a Z7 package size!!

I sold another brand of camera to upgrade to Nikon in 1981, and Nikon is still my favorite camera brand.

Posted by Robert Jordan on July 20, 2022

I've been a professional photographer for decades and I've used many different types and brands of film and digital cameras. I always prefer shooting with Nikon cameras because their superior performance and ergonomics help me focus on the image rather than be distracted by the camera. I've shot portraits, macro work, architectural assignments, landscape, wildlife and photojournalism assignments and my Z7II has never let me down and my clients have been delighted with the images. All of my Z series cameras have been a great investments that have paid for themselves many times over.

Good landscape camera could be a good BIF camera but

Posted by Ric Westman on July 20, 2022

Works well for landscape photos but after buying a Z9 I won’t be using it for birds in flight. The tracking on the Z7ii still needs work. It works but just not to the same level as the Z9, maybe some day

    My Go-To Camera

Posted by Maxx Brown on July 20, 2022

My Nikon Z7 II is my go-to camera for everyday photography, especially for landscapes. Although I have the Nikon Z6 II and a Nikon Z fc camera, the Nikon Z7 II is my first choice.- It has excellent ergonomics- Withstands the riggers of outdoor use in dusty or wet weather with excellent weather sealing.- Buttons and dials are all in logical places and easy to access without lifting your eye from the viewfinder.- Battery life is very reasonable and typically gets me through a day of heavy shooting- I love the customizations that can be assigned not only to Function Buttons but also to the U1, U2, and U3 setting dials. It is like having three cameras in one. When you consider the enormous choice for lenses, both the F mount and now the Newer Z mount, you have a formidable photography tool.Dislikes: Unless one like to Nik-pic Last but not least - Nikon continues to improve the camera's performance through firmware updates for free.

Great Camera but Autofocus Needs to Improve

Posted by Jerome Johnson on July 20, 2022

I’ve had a great experience with the Nikon Z 7II. Build quality is excellent. The menus are somewhat difficult to navigate until they are learned, but I am able to change settings as required without too much problem. My wish list is as follows:1. It’s a challenge to use focus shift shooting because the instructions are not clear and as often as not the focus stack has images in which focus isn’t shifted. 2. Autofocus for quickly moving subjects (birds, small animals, etc) is difficult to achieve. Bird and vehicles recognition capability from the Z 9 would be helpful in a firmware update. Also, when using wide area small or large, occasionally autofocus loses the subject and will not reacquire it. Again, a firmware update based on Z 9 capability would be helpful. Overall I am quite happy with my purchase and I am a dedicated Nikon customer. I love the growing family of Z mount lenses. Keep them coming!

    Exceeded expectations

Posted by DAVID JANSON on July 20, 2022

After about a year I continue to have my expectations exceeded. Switching up from a Nikon D750 and D810. As I continue to explore various features I have found a number of nice surprises. I have used the Z7II with a number of lenses, including quite a few F mount. These include old Nikkor and Dyne macro manual focus lenses and FTZ where focus peaking is a big help. Also using the Nikkor 200-500mm and FTZ for wildlife. Latest lens acquisition is a Z MC 105mm, which is pretty remarkable. Setting up a custom menu is a time saver, as I tend to switch to DX crop with the 200-500mm for distant wildlife, and then switch back again. I would tend to recommend the FTZ II since it can be less troublesome with a tripod mount adapter. I continue to be very happy with the Z 7II.
