    Great landscape camera

Posted by Gerrym on October 17, 2019

I use my Z7 primarily for landscape photography and occasionally for wildlife. It is fantastic for landscape but for animals that are moving quickly I tend to use my D850. My only disappointment is shortly after purchasing the Z7 Nikon started coming out with discounts and rebates for trading in other cameras that I didn´t get to take.

    Great for travel

Posted by prostar on October 17, 2019

I went from a D800 to the Z7. It was easy to make the transition with it having so much in common with the previous camera. I do a lot of travel on a Harley and needed something small to pack. It works with all my Nikon glass.

    D850 Quality Without The Weight

    Posted by gofriesz61 on October 17, 2019

As I approach my mid 70´s handholding my D850 with pro glass was becoming difficult without using a tripod. So I ordered a Z7 and am amazed at the picture quality and ease of use. Haven´t used my tripod once since I started using the Z7. Most of my photography is centered around the thoroughbred horse industry in Central KY. So there is always movement from horses meandering in a pasture to full out racing at our local racetrack (Keeneland). Autofocus is slightly slower than my D850 so a little more patience is required as I have been shooting with the 24-70 and 14-30 F/4 lenses and I also shoot with the 300F/4 PF and a TC1.4 using the FTZ adapter. Low light has not been a problem and auto focus shooting moving objects works flawlessly. So photography is fun again without using/carrying heavy gear. In my opinion this is the perfect camera for seniors who want to leave the tripod behin

    Love this camera BUT...

Posted by Walkabout on October 17, 2019

I am a professional botanical photographer - author of one wildflower guide and contributor to two others. I bought the new Z7 last spring and am seriously in love with the quality of the photographs I´ve been shooting. The resolution is amazing and with the new adjustable viewing/touch focus screen ease of use is pretty darned perfect - it is rare that I have to lay in the dirt to get my macro shots any longer. I do have one serious complaint however and that is with the peripheral connections. For professional reasons it is required that I GPS all of my shots. My Nikon GPS unit does connect with the camera BUT it does not make good consistent contact which means I have to jiggle the connection in order to make the unit register. Often it slips out of contact while I´m shooting. Therefor... I have to carry my D810 when I´m in the field because the GPS unit works perfectly with it as it has with all of my previous cameras. I´ve tried to contact Nikon several times about this issue but have never gotten a response. One other issue which I assume you are working on is the need for a compatible macro lens useable without the adapter. One other item: I´ve shot a couple of short videos and am very pleased with the quality - the constant focus feature is awesome!

    Good camera. Bad Auto Focus

Posted by MFPhoto on October 17, 2019

This camera is a step forward for Nikon in the mirrorless category. Its a great camera if you are doing portraits and landscape. Its terrible if you are doing wildlife or action photography. Autofocus seriously lags behind the competitors. You will miss many shots by the time the camera stops hunting for focus. Try it with 200-500 mm and you´ll see the unusable shots.
I´d recommend this for portraits. Wildlife and action photographers, please stay away.

Big step up from my d750

Posted by HurrayForMirrorlessNikon on October 17, 2019

I test drove both a d850 and a Z7 before making my choice. I enjoyed shooting with the Z7 much more. It felt a lot more comfortable in my hand (on the d850, I kept hitting the ISO button my mistake!). I enjoy everything about this camera with the exception of the single card slot. But that isn´t really much of an issue. It really is a joy to use. I highly recommend it. The FTZ adapter made it a simple decision to go mirrorless, since it works with absolutely every single one of my existing lenses, including teleconverters. The new Z lenses (I have rented a couple) are incredible. That´s my future.

Great tools to be able to run around and take quick and well done photos.

    Posted by 92corvette on October 17, 2019

Just returned after a short holiday over to La Jolla CA. I was able to leverage the connectability of my reflex lenses as well as utilizing the the Nikon Z 24-70 lens. The reduced weight and good quality shooting available with the Z7 is remarkable. The one photo captured a bird escaping from a crashing wave. I was impressed.

    Innovative and groundbreaking

Posted by Jeremy on October 17, 2019

It took all of one day using the Nikon Z7 on location to know that my DSLR days were numbered. I shot faster, rarely needed a tripod due to IBIS, and got higher quality imagery than ever before. The images are sharper, have richer color, and higher dynamic range than anything before in my experience. On a job, that resulted in my getting more great images for my client, which equated to added value. The Z7 is an innovative and groundbreaking next-gen professional camera that, combined with the native Z lenses, is providing a new level of image quality in 35mm format. In my long career as a pro photographer, this is the first time ever that I have not owned an SLR type of camera, and I´m super happy.
