I bought a D7500 18 months ago to upgrade my D90. As much as I love the D7500 I decided to buy the Z50 for a compact travel camera. I am totally blown away by the Z50. Its ergonomics are perfect, it´s light and compact and takes photos every bit as good as my D7500. I´m looking forward to additional Z-mount DX lenses.

I purchased this camera directly from Nikon with the two lens and FTZ adapter kit. All I can say is that it´s a great looking and highly functional camera that you will find yourself having with you all the time. It´s amazingly compact and easy to hold. Both the physical and touch screen controls are easy to use. Image quality of both photo and video are excellent. It´s great having so many options in a small camera capable of producing high quality images and 4K video, interval shooting and time lapse movies all while displaying them on an impressively sharp LCD monitor and electronic viewfinder. I also like the fact that the kit lenses have the option to collapse in to themselves for a reduction in size. This makes it so much easier to carry around.
I have other good cameras, but their larger size ensures that they are most times never with me causing me to miss many an opportunity for a great shot. This camera´s size and light weight even makes it easier to hold steady at lower shutter speeds. I am very pleased with this purchase.

I´ve loved this camera since I bought it only a few weeks ago but I´m curious and can´t find any reliable info about this topic but does this camera have weather sealing and if so does the FTZ adapter also have it?

I really the new Z50. My question is, has anyone used the full frame nikkor Z35 mm lens with the Z 50 camera? And if so, what is your opinion on this?

I´ve used them all, from Large and Medium Format, to a lot of DSLRs and this Z50 ia amazing for still and video. It all fits into a very compact, way to carry bag.

Love how it handles and the clarity of the pictures. Had a wicked time finding out how to use the self timer. Not explained in the manual and 4 techies form Nikon didn´t know either.

Definitely successful in making a small quality camera. Low in weight and high in features. The menus and basic setup feels like a Nikon. Small enough to stash in many places that would be difficult with a DSLR, especially with the tiny 16-50 lens which will collapse even further when not in use. Easily shoots high quality RAW and a variety of JPEG formats. Relatively easy to manipulate ISO, shutter, and aperture which can be an issue on some products in this price category. That said other features are buried in the menus some place, though relatively easy to get to via the touch screen on the back. The same screen flips out which is great for shooting with the camera low to the ground or above your head, and it will even face forward if you want to be in the picture/video.

It is simple to switch between still and video, and most other things with everything on the display whether the Electronic View Finder (EVF) or the back screen. Though I did find the front scroll wheel initially difficult to lay my finger on that was just practice.

On the other hand the lens are slow and feel cheap. They are (feel like) cheap plastic that you might find on a $100 camera. The zooming is not smooth and Nikon-like. My Nikon Keybridge action cameras feel better made. But the speed alone is a problem. The little 16-50mm lens is a f3.5-6.3. That means when I am shooting 50mm (75mm effective) the best I have is f6.3 which is ridiculous for a small camera that I would love to use for street photography. Even at 33mm (50mm effective) which is the classic 35MM prime lens equivalent the best you can do is f5. The bigger lens 50-250mm is even worse with a range of f4.5-6.3. It also feels cheap and not a smooth feel when moving any of the rings.

All that kicks up the ISO bringing down the image quality compared to something with a faster lens option.

While I like the quality of the EVF and the information available I have two issue. First the image is fuzzy until you do the half press of the shutter button because it is not in focus until then. This is not an issue with a DSLR. The other issue is since what you see is what you get, when it is dark or your image (or part of your image) is under exposed the EVF and back screen are dark. Unlike a DSLR where you can still see what you are composing and then expose according, with the EVF it is difficult. This would become more of an issue doing flash photography as you are often composing in a darker environment knowing you have flash or even just fill flash that will correctly light the image but when you pop the flash up it lightens the screen. Of course, it is no longer what you see is what you get. I did not find a way to lighten the EVF/back screen during non-flash photography though there might be away.

In summary a nice lower end Nikon in the mirrorless category. Small and easy to carry and familiar if you are a Nikon shooter. Quality images and videos, but cheap and slow lens in the mirrorless DX category. Its bigger family (Z6-Z7) have a much better collection of faster glass which could make a huge difference. For me I will be returning the Z50, but it could be a good product if smaller is a primary requirement.

I love my new Z50!!

Since I bought my Z50 it has become my favorite and always with me camera for traveling, blogging and simply enjoying photography. It´s one of those cameras that you wanna keep using. So light, so discrete and so good!

I also own a Z6 and a Z7 but this is the one I´m using the most. Highly recommend it!
I got the blogging plate from Small Rig and now I can use a tripod, flip the screen and see myself perfectly. That was my only concern and it´s gone!

Five stars for the Z50!!!

This may sound crazy, but I sold my Z6 and bought the Z50. I´m an enthusiast who travels a lot. In hot weather, the Z6 was annoying after 7-8 hours of touring. But the Z50 is a dream. Very similar functions, excellent photo quality, and the lenses weigh next to nothing. I can´t think of a better combo for travelers who seek the reliability and user-friendliness that Nikon provides. Can´t wait for additions to the Z DX lens family.
