Truly an amazing camera for the price

I came from a Nikon D7500. Extremely happy with the 16-50 kit lens and the FTZ adapter. I just hope more native DX glass comes out.

Great Small Camera
Posted by Purplehaze72 on December 20, 2019
I am a retired Active Duty US Army Photographer. I served in Korea in 1972 as a U S Army Signal Corp Photographer. I used the 4x5 Speed Graflex Camera. The camera was slow, heavy and bulky. The camera was used during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. Admittedly, the camera took clear sharp photos. I recently bought the Z50. Compared to the Speed Graflex, the Z50 was a spy camera. At 20 MP the camera takes clear, sharp images. I bought the 16-50 and 50-250 Nikon S lenses with the Z50 Body. I use the Z50 as a general all around camera. I use the Live View feature, which yields sharp fast images. I am going to Hawaii next year on vacation. The speed and the weight of the Z50 will be less bulky than the Army Speed Graflex.

Very Pleased
Posted by Carol on December 19, 2019
I just received my Z50 a few days ago and I love it. I have Nikon DSLRs but I needed a smaller, lighter camera to use when traveling or when I wanted to be more discreet. The Z50 is perfect for this and it also takes excellent pictures. The controls are a breeze and the camera has a lot of features.
I was using another brand for travel because there was not a Nikon at the time that I felt met my needs. I am so glad Nikon came out with the Z50 so I can be all Nikon again and comfortable with all my cameras. -

Outstanding camera
Posted by Z50lover on December 19, 2019
I made the jump to the Z-mount system recently after trading in all my D7200 equipment, including Nikon lenses I have collected over the years (80-400 mm, 105 mm prime, 50 mm prime, 18-300 mm).
I bought the Z50 kit with the two lenses (16-50 mm, 50-250 mm), and I love it. The pictures are amazing, sharp and vivid. The Z50 and the lenses are light-weight and easy to handle. The menu is similar to my old DSLRs and it is easy to adjust settings.
I am a stock photographer, and I got a 100% approval rate when I submitted my first Z50 pictures to a stock photography provider (I normally have 70% approval when I submit photos). This speaks highly of the Z50, as I barely touched the photos post capturing when they were submitted to the reviewers. My work flow has become much faster with the Z50 as I can now spend more time taking photos instead of editing. -

Best Little Camera in the world!
Posted by Dimitri on December 19, 2019
The body is barely tall to fit the lens and the body with the 16-50mm lens can fit in most pockets. Therefore, a great candidate for street photography; that is the reason I bought it in the first place.
The image quality is superb for the camera´s and sensor´s size. I own a D850 and although the Z50 image quality is not comparable to the D850, it is more than enough for almost any photographer.
The menu is a little different than the D800 series but similar enough to use it without much difficulty.
Lots of the settings, when the camera menu is difficult to understand, can be googled and there are many articles and You Tube videos that show how to do it such as using VR, setting the back button focusing, etc.
The only negative is that the camera manual is not very useful, at least for me since I only shoot manual with or without Auto ISO; however, if you shoot manual, w/ or w/o Auto ISO, the camera has the ISO and Exposure Compensation buttons next to the shutter (similar to the D850) and with a little practice you can shoot hundred of photos without taking you eye from the viewfinder.
The thing I am working now is to learn more about Auto Focusing for different situations such as landscapes, street photography, action sports, birds in flight and so on.
The 16-50mm lens is very flat and small and perfect for street photography. It is a slow lens but for street photography I usually use f/8 so this is not a problem (big size, fast lens is a problem).
The 50-250mm lens has quite a reach and is good travel, vacation lens. Not a fast lens either but size is more important to me than large aperture.
I also, the adapter for the F mount lenses but I have not used it yet to give a review here.
Overall, I am very happy I got the whole package and it is exactly what I expected with image quality surpassing my expectations.
Strongly recommended camera and lenses! -

It´s an excellent camera, period.
Posted by Rocket88 on December 19, 2019
I believe the z 50 is for the Nikon mirrorless system much like the Nikon d40 was for the DSLR market. It´s small, light, simple, yet it produces world class images without any real sacrifice. Sure there are things like dual card slots and IBIS that we would all like for it to have but by leaving them out, Nikon has hit a very aggressive price point that is just too hard to pass up for the serious enthusiast. Speaking about the camera itself, I´ve found the focus system very accurate, higher ISO noise to be minimal and ergonomics to be fantastic. It fits nicely in the hand and is of course, so much lighter than an equivalent DSLR.

Nice size for interchangeable lens camera
Posted by BKRider on December 19, 2019
The camera is very compact especially with the 16-50 mm lens: it will fit in a jacket pocket.
It is sometimes slow to move a RAW photo from the buffer, resulting in a few seconds wait before another photo can be taken.
If you don´t use the Automatic or Program settings, there are many icons and other control information to learn.
Most of the controls are located in the same place as the controls on the Nikon DLSRs.
The picture quality is good; you can crop up to 300x and still get a small useable photo. (See Photo)
The folding monitor/viewfinder is great for getting eye-level views of small things or critters without going down on your knees or stomach. The touch screen controls are also very handy.
This is a preliminary review sinceI haven´t used the camera extensively or the video feature. -

One Small Camera With Great Potential
Posted by Oskykid on December 19, 2019
I´ve only had my Z 50 a few days, so I´m limited in what I can share. I simply know that this camera has amazing potential from what I´ve experienced so far and greater things will happen as I become more familiar with settings, features and learning from other users. I´ve been using Nikon DSLR cameras for about 10 years now and have enjoyed the best photos of my life. I am planning to continue using my D7100, but my goal is to make the Z 50 my main camera because of the image quality the Z cameras offer. You can see that quality with the first picture you take. I have the 16-50mm kit lens and while it is amazing, I´m enjoying the use of my DX lens collection using the FTZ adapter.
As a photographer I have enjoyed working with manual settings and shooting in the RAW format. I have all the buttons, dials and editing features of my D7100 down to a science, so my challenge now is to become a camera student again so I can work with the Z 50 just as easily. You might get discouraged in going to the Z format, but give yourself time to learn and discover - because the Z 50 will deliver great images and video. It will inspire you to try new things.
I like the camera´s size, looks, features, amazing sharp screen, outstanding images and the quietness of a mirrorless camera. What is tough for me is being somewhat dependent on the screen and not having the same focal point system in the view finder that I have enjoyed with the D7100.
I encourage you to go online and watch the videos of the professionals who are raving about the Z 50 and to see their work. That´s what really sold me on trying the camera and not just buying another DSLR this time around. People I respect are saying that mirrorless cameras will be outselling the DSLRs in just a few years. -

A New Standard Is Set
Posted by Toxdoc on December 19, 2019
I find this camera an amazing instrument, probably more like a computer that you can attach lenses to though. The ergonomics are divine, it is feature packed and an order of magnitude more exciting than any camera I have owned in over 65 years.
I love the fact that the viewfinder actually gives you a hint as to if your exposure is accurate, I am busy learning techniques I never thought I would use, but now find incredibly important such as the focus peaking feature which has advanced my ability to focus on an object, on the object, that I am most concerned with photographing.
My only regret is not realizing how important the IBIS is and the fact that it is not available in this model. I do realize that not including it, depending upon lens-based VR saves money and weight in the camera. I already have found some difficulty adjusting to the lack of the IBIS and the inability of the camera to recognize VR in my existing F-series lenses. Hopefully Nikon will issue a wider variety of DX type lenses for the Z mount which will be equipped with VR in a native Z-mount, and they will be as affordable as the prior prime lenses were.
I called Nikon support for a couple of things that I could not find in the reference manual and I was shocked at the great service I was provided!
