This is an outstanding lens! This lens is much sharper than my F 105 2.8 Macro. I am very happy with the lens.

Wonderful macro lens!
Outstanding lens! An improvement over the older F mount 105mm VR macro. It is lighter, sharper, and the focus limiter witch is geared for macro, not distance photography, which is very convenient. This lens has built-in VR which allows me to have VR while using this lens with my Z50 DX camera which does not have IBIS.

Best macro for Nikon yet
I am not one who usually gets excited about new iterations of lenses, but when this lens was announced by Nikon last month, I immediately purchased it. And as I was waiting for Nikon to ship it, I waited impatiently, counting down the days. This lens delivers. It is noticeably lighter than its F-mount predecessor, yet it still feels solid. The autofocus is faster and more accurate, and it does not hunt nearly as much as the F-mount did. I have not done head-to-head comparisons (pixel-peeping) with the prior model, but this lens is razor sharp as you can expect with Nikon macro lenses. I was also surprised to see a slightly-closer minimum focusing distance with this lens.I also want to note that this lens is an incredible bargain. It not only serves as a macro lens, but it functions well as a portrait lens and a general-use telephoto lens. For $1000, you really can't beat that.I have no complaints with this lens in the first 2 weeks of owning it, and I would 100% recommend it to any Nikon user.

This lens is a perfect match with my Z6ii. It is very lightweight and the quality of pictures is beyond my expectations.

Nikon 105mm f2.8 S for portraits
Excellent lens for portrait as well as macro. I have shot family portraits at 4th of July gathering. I still have to use it for macro, but I already see an improvement over the 105mm G lens.

As a long time user of the F mount 105 macro lens, I knew that i had to get this lens as soon as it was announced. I have not been disappointed and the auto macro focus abilities exceed those on F-mount lens with my Z7 camera.

Great multipurpose lens
As others have said, sharpness and bokeh are great. A tad heavy, but all that glass works.
