My multipurpose lens
Posted by polizonte polizonte on March 10, 2025
I purchased the Z MC 105mm f/2.8 S more for walk around, landscape, and portrait photography more than 1:1 macrophotography. For my purposes the VR feature, extra reach and closer framing than shorter focal length lenses make it a real multipurpose lens. Resolution, contrast, and color are excellent.

having fun with macro
Posted by karen sturgeon on March 2, 2025
Just starting to play with really close up macro shots. Enjoying this lens and it's capabilities. Macro in general is a bit of a learning curve but this lens is certainly helping me along. I would recommend it.

Excellent Macro lens

Excellent lens and is very sharp, I wish the focus was a little faster but I understand the reason it works as it does.

Pro grade optics at kit lens prices.
Posted by JAMES EAMES on February 18, 2025
This lens is tack sharp and I appreciate the greater working distance compared to my 60 mm Nikon macro lens. For macro work, I usually focus manually, a slow, deliberate process and the wide aperture insures plenty of light for focusing. This lens also works well as a short telephoto at a length that gives just the right amount of compression to landscapes. It is a bargain offering pro quality at just a little more than a kit lens price.

Great Lens
Posted by Conrad N/A on February 13, 2025
A 105 mm micro lens has been my workhorse for decades. About 50% of my images are macro. The 105 mm micro Z lens is a welcome addition to my camera bag.

Z MC 105 - Great Macro Lens
Posted by Dick Rayray on January 24, 2025
WOW - so glad I bought this. Read lots of reviews online and was going to initially buy the MC 50, but was steered to the MC 105 due to working distance and overall reviews pretty much said that the MC 105 is a better lens. Was able to get up close and capture some great pics. There is a learning curve though, you 'think' you have everything in focus, then it starts hunting again. I got my first macro taste with an addon NiSi close up lens kit. If you're just want to try macro, it may be an inexpensive start, but does NOT compare to what I could capture with the MC 105

This macro prime for Nikon's mirrorless cameras is spot on.
Posted by Ira Wilner on January 23, 2025
It's a decent, fast, 105 mm prime that happens to be a true macro. What's not to like about it? I've been using it for both. The digital readout can be set for magnification ratio which will follow the lens's focus. The overall optical quality is spot on. The only negative is serious focus breathing. This is not a cinema lens. See a few test shots below.

Glad I bought it

My first photos of flowers were beautiful. Used it with my Z 7ll. So glad I got it even though I had a macro lens.

This Blazingly Sharp, Versatile Lens Is Essential Gear
Posted by PRESTON PAGE on October 21, 2024
After 20 years of shooting Nikon DSLs, I finally decided to get acquainted with mirrorless gear. Because I considered the 105mm macro essential, it was my second lens purchase. After putting the Z MC 105mm through two weeks of testing, I'm happy to report that it handles well and is blazingly sharp. In fact, because I've had a version Nikon's macro 105mm since 1976, I'm sure the Z MC 105mm is the sharpest one yet. Fashion photography is my primary focus, so this lens fills the roles of portrait lens for hair and make-up shots, short telephoto for subject isolation on location, and, of course, macro lens for close-ups of make-up and jewelry. Well done, Nikon!
