Nikkor 85 1.8 S - my Favorite
Posted by Danno1602 on February 25, 2020
I love this lens. It is a wonderful lens even wide open. The bokeh is wonderful. The lens is quick to focus and that focus is silent or nearly so. I have used the F mount 85 1.8 and 1.4 both and I prefer the S lens results.

Lightweight, but well built with beautiful renderings
Posted by BRPhotography on December 26, 2019
The 85mm S was my first lens from the Z line. I´ve used it to shoot portraits and weddings, and as secondary lens on a Z6 body for marathons. It´s been a pleasure to use, because it´s part of such a lightweight system, with overall image quality that renders realistic colors/skin tones, and a level of sharpness that´s better across the frame than my G lenses, as advertised. What impressed (and surprised) me the most is that using dynamic area mode, it focuses faster in moderately low light, when compared to my 85mm 1.8G on my D750. I´m now able to take ambient/low-light shots on reception dance floors with my S primes, seeing a higher hit rate. I didn´t expect that!
Any experienced photographer using the Z system would be impressed by its image quality and the new features the system provides, particularly with new firmware upgrades to focusing features. -

The best 85mm I´ve had!

This 85mm is awesome!! Lighter and powerful. Love it. This and my 120mm f1.4 g are my favorite portrait lenses.

Really incredible lens. So far all of my S series lenses are exceeding expectations. Super sharp, fast focus. One of my favorites.

Killer Lens
Posted by APhotographer on December 25, 2019
I got this lens to use on my Z6 as a replacement for my F mount 85mm f1.4G. Its so good I don´t miss the extra fraction of a stop at all, and the lighter weight is nice, too. Images are crazy sharp with buttery smooth backgrounds. Its hard to find any problems at all with this lens. My only minor complaint is that it takes 67mm filters, while the 50mm prime takes 62mm filters and the kit lens takes 72mm filters. An attempt to standardize the filter sizes would´ve been nice. Overall, if you want a short tele or a portrait lens
for a Z6 or Z7 this is the answer. -

Great Lense for Low Light and CloseUp
Posted by JoRee on December 25, 2019
This is my first f/1.8 lens and I like the slightly closer frame without getting in the subjects way. This should be good for street shots, although I am just starting to use my lens. I also appreciate using the lens without the FTZ connection on my Z6 camera. I look forward to using it when traveling.

Amazing portrait lens
Posted by RNovoa on December 25, 2019
Bought it to replace my old 85mm now that I moved to the Z platform. Amazing quality, great bokeh, superior to the already great Nikon 85mm I had. I love this lens!

On Location Portrait Lens
Posted by DennisGrayPhotographer on December 25, 2019
I have included one image. The first is my 10 year old Granddaughter. f1.8 at 1/800 sec. Using the Eye Focus system her left eye is needle sharp. The rest of her face is going into a nice softness.
