    good, not great

Posted by slickscream on December 5, 2022

This lens is a very good lens overall. However, it's not in the same league as the 50mm 1.8s which costs $200 Canadian less. The sharpness and rendering of the 50 and 85 both exceed this 35 by a noticeable margin. If this lens was priced at the same as the 50mm, I'd give it 5 stars. But being the highest priced of the 35, 50, and 85, it's clearly the worst performer of the 3.

    Tremendous Lens

Posted by aaldhize on January 29, 2020

I´ve been shooting with this lens for about 3 months now and I love it. Using this lens on my Z7 has made me fall in love with the 35mm perspective all over again. Its sharp, compact and great in low light for everything from landscapes to newborn shoots, but also quiet enough (for me) to use for video as I begin experimenting in that as well. A tad pricey in my honest opinion (that´s why it gets 4 stars from me), but the quality is there to justify it. It´s a lens that I look forward to using for years to come on my Z7.

Simply awesome for portraits! One of my 2 favorite lenses!!

Posted by MarcoATX on December 26, 2019

This is the best 85mm Nikkor lens I´ve had. This is on my top 2 favorite portrait lenses with the 120mm f1.4g. I highly recommend it!

    Just Incredible!

Posted by GuyGabriel on November 23, 2019

This is, without a doubt, the sharpest 35mm lens I´ve ever owned! I used to own the F-mount 35mm f/1,4G Nikkor lens that I used together with my D850, but as I slowly migrate to Mirrorless, and the Z7, I´ve been replacing all of my F-mount lenses. This new 35mm f/1.8S lens produces sharp images edge-to-edge even wide open, and it focuses incredibly fast and so quietly.

    Fast Glass

Posted by RRNFL on November 20, 2019

An excellent lens for most of the settings it was designed to help capture. It´s light weight is deceiving as it is well constructed. I would have preferred a f/1.2, but not the inherent price increase.

    35 1.8 Great Lens

Posted by Godric on November 19, 2019

I have been shooting with the Z6 for 6 months and recently purchased the 35 1.8. first, you can hold this camera and lens all day, so comfortable and very light. this lens is quick to focus and is perfect for all around photography. I have used it for an entire night of photographing Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Orlando, I thought i would have some troubles due to the very low light to no light but to my happy surprise, it focused quickly, locked on to my targets, the 1.8 helped tremendously and the long night of shooting was very pleasurable. I cannot wait for the 70-200 2.8 and will be going out to pick up the 85 1.8 in a few weeks and i cannot wait until next year to try out the 50 1.2 and i hope to hear about more faster lenses soon. Thank Nikon, I am loving the Camera and cannot wait to see what you release next.

    Compact and impressive

Posted by Drastic on November 18, 2019

Sharp, quick autofocus, and light. Color rendition is wonderful. The minimum focus distance is short enough that with the Z7 and its built-in vibration compensation, I have taken near-macro images hand-held that would have been impossible before.
