    Excellent walk-around lens for Z

Posted by DaveTL on September 11, 2019

I bought the 35 f1.8 as my primary lens with my new Z6. Moving to Z6 from a D810, and previously was using a Tamron 15-30 as a common walk-around lens with the 810 - the z6 with the 35 weighs less than the lens alone, or seemingly so. Sharpness is excellent, the f1.8 aperture combined with the Z6´s fabulous low-light capability is amazing. I still have the 15-30, and can use it with the FTZ, but I haven´t taken it out more than once or twice since getting the new combo. This lens has influenced me to plan on concentrating on z-mount lenses for future acquisitions, and to gradually cycle out my F-mount glass as time goes on.

    Great lens

Posted by AbeK on September 11, 2019

So far, my experience with all the native Z lenses is great. I have the 50 f/1.8, 35 f/1.8, 24-70 f/2.8 and the 14-30 f/4. I own both the Z6 and Z7 bodies. I switched to the Z system from a D850 and Df and have no regrets (except for focus performance when compared with the awesome D850).

All the Z lenses to date deliver incredible optics that compare favorably to many of the best lenses in the world, and are both reasonably priced and compact in size and weight. Nikon did a good job of going all-in on mirrorless and I´m now all-in, too.

    Great Prime 35

Posted by sadlad on September 11, 2019

This is the first native lens that I purchased for my Z6 and I love it! Very lightweight and compact, so it´s nice when I stuff it into my backpack and hit the trails for my landscape photography. It´s very sharp edge to edge and the autofocus is much better than using the adapter and my other lenses. I also love using the focus ring as my aperture adjustment tool... very handy. My only complaint is that the bokeh at the wide-open 1.8 is a bit sharper than I prefer. I highly recommend this lens for anybody with a Z camera.

    Great Lens

    Posted by Phil1950 on September 11, 2019

This is my third Native lens for the Nikon Z system. Like the previous lenses (24-70 f/4 and the 14-30) the 35/1.8 is very sharp corner to corner. With the IBIS in the Z7, the 1.8 aperture is outstanding in low light. The lens is comfortable to use both on auto and manual focus.

My favorite and best 35mm to use in any platform

    Posted by gryphon1911 on September 11, 2019

I´ve used many 35mm lenses and even have an old Pre-AI Nikon 35mm f/2.8.

The f-Mount 35mm it´s a great lens and most people might be happy just to adapt it. However the Z mount 35, I find of just ever so slightly better wide open and benefits from the 5 axis IBIS. The silent AF, is great for shooting in intimate situations as well as perfect for video.

I use mine for low light event photography and cold not be happier.

    As good as it gets!

    Posted by Freddie123 on August 5, 2019

If you are buying into a Z system you are a hybrid shooter and care about video as much as photography and this is where this lens is as good as it gets. Pictures quality and sharpness is the best I have seen from Nikon and video smoothness and footage quality is again wonderful. This makes it my favourite lens to carry when planning to take video not only in low light but in all conditions. The other advantage is that it is a perfect match with the new Ronin SC gimbal. Simply if you have the budget please do yourself a favour :)

    Magnificent Low Light Reproduction Lens

    Posted by Scripps23 on March 27, 2019

I recently used the new Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.8 S lens inside the dark environment of the Musee d´Orsay art museum in Paris, France where photography (without flash and tripod) is allowed. This lens renders spectacular results in low light due to its optical excellence and the associated superior design of the Nikon Z7 camera body. Below is an image of Vincent van Gogh´s oil on canvas titled ´´Portrait of Dr. Gachet´´ that renders color and every brush stroke perfectly.
