Just a fantastic camera! As categorized by others as one of the best DSLRs ever made, and I agree. The capabilities of this camera will require that you spend some time to learn how to get the best images. If you have used other Nikon products the camera menu system will be familiar.

I finally bought this camera after years of contemplating my next upgrade from a D80. I made the right decision. The features, thoughtful design, lens choice and durablilty are outstanding. I consider myself and advanced amateur in terms of photographic skill level. I also bought the 24-70mmm 2.8E FX Lens, the 70-200 2.8E FX lens and a 2x teleconverter. I have principally shot sporting events and portraits with both lenses. The autofocus in combination with the high quality glass produces amazing clarity. Don't second guess purchasing this camera. It is top-notch. I hope that Nikon continues to produce DSLR bodies and lenses. They are unparalled.

I just added the D850 to my kit. I used it at a sporting event recently with the Nikon 300mm PF f/4 lens and am amazed at the detail capture. I also purchased a battery grip and an EN-EL18c battery to achieve 9fps. I'm extremely satisfied with this camera; the resolution is simply amazing.

Above my expectations !The D850 give me more than I was expecting, D800 owner for a decade, it took me a long time to decide to move up for the D850 but I'm glade I finally did.D850's batteries are compatibles with the ones I had from my D800 cameras, of courses my lenses are also compatible, in fact the only think that was not compatible between the D800 & D850 is the memory cards.I find the D850 sensor better, not just because it have more pixels but the dynamic range is larger and I like the fact that there is no AA filter on the D850.Overall I'm glad and happy that I moved up from the D800 to the D850.

I love this DSLR, and it convinced me to sway away from mirrorless especially with the legendary DSLR lenses made in Japan, low light focus is dead accurate, who needs the eye detect with the focus system built in this camera? No mirrorless for me. Kudos to Nikon for making this GEM, I hope they do not kill it off and come up with 870….!! If they do not , I will be very glad to buy and enjoy the last legendary DSLR in the market.

I am a retired Professional Photographer and before the D850, I have been using the D700 for a very very long time. The D850 is very similar to the D700 and it was comforting to know that I now own a 45.7MP camera. Here is a few tips, always use Auto ISO to a max of the highest ISO with a minimum shutter speed of 200 (ha I can hear the skeptics) but this isn't a film camera so forget all about using 100 iso for fine grain. It is better to get the shot no matter how grainy which usually isn't because it is a digital camera then getting a blurred image in a wedding. I have shot one of the most beautiful photos in a wedding in almost pitch dark outside shoots using no flash because a flash outside simply disappears but Auto ISO at Max ISO settings will give you the advantage of every other photographer out there who has trained under film. Throw your film knowledge away on ISO and go digital. This is why you do buy a digital camera and that is to push the limits and not to stay safe by shooting at 100 iso. I read somewhere that their camera kept looking up on them and probably a low ISO is the problem as very low shutter speeds and blurry photos are the problem. Grainy photos can be fixed under photoshop but blurry photos or missed photos cannot. The D850 might even be the last of the prism/mirrors ever produced as everyone goes mirrorless and that is another thing where a DSLR is the clarity of seeing what you are shooting and you can follow a moving object like at the wedding throwing a bouquet, or a bird flight. If you want to shoot movies get a movie camera and not a DSLR. It is wonderful that this camera can shoot movie but it is a secondary function to me. I love my last camera and goodbye to DSLRs. Thank goodness that the LAST DSLR D850 is a 45.7MP camera. Buy this camera before they are all gone!!!

In 2022 it was a tough call between the Z7ii and the D850. Coming up from a D810 and how happy I was with that camera I decided to stick with the DSLR as the specs seemed similar enough to the Z7 and I wouldn't have to bother with the lens adapter. I'm super happy with my decision and at the sale price of $2500 I feel it was a great deal. If you are upgrading from an older camera this model is leaps and bounds ahead and still relevant despite the newer Z series models.

Worst Camera I have ever owned. AF is not accurate, regardless of Lens, Settings, Mode, AF Fine Tuning. Produces Mosquitoes by the handful regardless of the Picture Controls settings. Horrible battery life. Nikon claims it is Fine. I would counter and say it truly is a Piece of Fecal Matter

I have had my 850 for about four months now, and I am not impressed. I mainly shoot portraits and weddings, and it is not suitable for my style of shooting. At almost every single shoot I have used it, the camera has frozen up on me making it impossible to take pictures, press any buttons, or even power it off. Because of this I have missed lots of shots that are important on wedding days. My clients feel awkward with the long pauses, and I become embarrassed because it makes me look unprofessional with what is supposed to be a professional camera. The live view focusing system produces the best quality images, but it is extremely slow and isn't realistic when shooting portraits. To me, that is unacceptable and I am in the market for a different camera. However, for shots like details, stills, and situations that I can have complete control over, the quality of the images is great and captures great detail. Considering how much money I spent on this camera model, I am disappointed with its performance overall.
