D850

My wife surprised me with a Nikon D850 for Christmas, and it is the most amazing camera ever. All my gear is Nikon, and the D850 is easily the most capable and fantastic camera I own. I love the ability to use DX lenses on the full frame camera, and all my lenses fit the new camera. Over the years I have become accustomed to the Nikon menus, and learning the many wonderful features of the new camera was easy. I live in Alaska, and I now have another fine tool to capture the beauty of our state.

Easily my favorite camera plus the price is very reasonable

I went from a D3200 to the D850 so this was a major advancement for me with photography. I went from having limited capabilities with my basic starter DSLR (which I thoroughly enjoyed after almost 6 years) to this far advanced professional DSLR. I knew I had maxed out the capabilites of the D3200 and felt ready to further advance my photography skills. This D850 has exceeded my expectations already! I am very much into wildlife photography, and the focusing capabilities has allowed me to set up the camera with 3 buttons for instant focusing, with a capability of having 4. I am able to track moving subjects so much easier and proficiently with total accuracy. The megapixel resolution allows me to crop where necessary very easily without losing quality. I could go on and on with the cameras other capabilities, but I think you get the point. Can´y wait to build up my FX lens collection, yet I am able to still use my DX lenses in the meantime.

Wow, what a camera! It´s taken me awhile even to work up the nerve to use my D850 (having used a D7000 for about 7 years), but I finally did, and I´m very impressed. I keep hitting the wrong buttons (there are more of them and some are in slightly different positions), and I´m a bit confused, though I´m sure I´ll soon figure this out, by what seem to be underexposed shots (I have it set for matrix metering), but otherwise, I couldn´t be more impressed. Even the weight doesn´t bother me (I have a 28-300 lens); in fact, the weight makes the camera feel more stable in my hands and less prone to camera shake when I press the shutter release. Great job, Nikon!

I got the D850 a few weeks ago after waiting for it to become more readily available as an in stock item. Already own a D500 so I was not in major rush.There is not much I can add that others haven´t already said, but this camera is a sheer delight to own. Quality and sense of robustness are top tier not to mention available functionality and image quality. Owning a D500 I had zero learning curve with the D850 feeling immediately familiar in every respect, but with a few added features such as touch screen menu selection, focus stacking, auto picture control and so forth. I plan to keep both cameras using each according to their individual strengths. I mainly use the D850 for landscape and portrait. Many reflect concerns with the large file size, and I also shared this concern initially. 14-bit lossless compressed NEF files average around 50MB, just over twice the size of typical files from my D500. I do the majority of my post-processing using LR mobile on iPad Pro but still use LR classic on desktop computer especially to create camera/lens profiles and so forth. I was concerned that D850 files would bog the processing down on the iPad and desktop, but I was pleasantly surprised how well both LR mobile and classic handles the files. Sure processing is slower than with D500 files, no doubt about that, but still quite acceptable. It can take several seconds for images to reach full resolution, original format, but process is cleverly handled by lightroom making perceived processing speed acceptable in my opinion.

Must admit I was a little ´´perturbed´´ when the stellar Z7 reviews started to emerge, so quickly after I made a committment to the D850. To some extent this robbed me of my sense of delight with the D850, but I quickly got over that. I plan to keep the D850 for a good few years but will continue to monitor mirrorless developments. Perhaps when 2nd or 3rd iteration of Nikon mirrorless emerges I might be tempted over ;-)

I acquired the D850 to copy my wife´s artwork for reproduction and archiving. The increase in resolution over my D810 allowed me to stay with Nikon (user for over 40 years) instead of opting for a medium format camera. The files are large, however we both have increased our computer power to handle editing and storage. The D850 does the job in faithfully reproducing this cherished collection.

I owned a D200 for years which I never took full advantage of. Bought the D850 with a 20mm 1.8f and 50mm 1.8f lens. I have used the 20 mm almost exclusively and love the combination. I have deliberately shot fast action, low light, regular, non-regular pictures. The camera is taking incredible pictures. I am really enjoying the extra investment to get this camera.

I just got it on 10/20/2018 tried to take pictures last week. I am very impress with the result. I own D810, but D850 is above D810. I really satisfy with this camera and it is the best DSLR I have, I love it.

Love that I can focus at 100% in the live view screen. Excellent resolution.
